Dharna: Several activists of the Haryana unit
of the Lok Dal (Ajit) staged a dharna in front of
the office of the Deputy Commissioner on Saturday
to protest against the demolition of 20 houses in
a colony, near PGIMS campus. They demanded
relocation of the affected families and grant of
adequate compensation to them.FATEHABAD
Power supply: A comprehensive plan to
strengthen the power supply system in the
district has been formulated, under which the
length of the present 30 supply feeders of 11 KV
each will be shortened in phases. This was stated
by the Deputy Commissioner, Mr V. Raja Shekhar,
at an open darbar organised in Rattia on
Saturday.
Nominated: A society for the control of
blindness in the district has been set up under
the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner. The
Civil Surgeon, Dr Beena Choudhary, has been
nominated as the Vice-President and the district
Health Officer, Dr S.P. Mimani, as the Secretary
of the society.
FARIDABAD
Inefficiency: Resentment prevails among
residents here against the inefficiency of the
Department of Telecommunications in distributing
telegrams. Residents allege that a large number
of telegrams have been dumped at the office and
not distributed for the past one week.
Dowry death: Vijay, a housewife of Mukesh
Colony in Ballabhgarh, allegedly committed
suicide by setting herself and her one-year-old
son on fire on Friday. She reportedly took the
extreme step due to the alleged harassment by her
in-laws for not bringing enough dowry. A case has
been registered against her mother-in-law,
father-in-law and brother-in-law.
HISAR
Project: A Rs 25-lakh research project has
been sanctioned to the CCS Haryana Agricultural
University by the Volkswagen Foundation, Germany,
for a period of three years. Dr R.S. Malik,
Project Director, CCSHAU and principal
investigator of this scheme, said on Saturday
that under this project research studies on
design and development of optimum water
filtration techniques and effects of different
degrees of filtrated water would be taken up.
Sentenced: The Additional District and
Sessions Judge, Mr Diwan Chand, on Saturday
sentenced two persons to life imprisonment in a
double murder case. According to the prosecution,
Yashpal and Kulwant along with nine others had
murdered Mukesh and Yashwant on March 5, 1995.
Imprisonment: The Additional District and
Sessions Judge, Mr B.M. Bedi, on Saturday awarded
10 years' imprisonment to two persons, Hansa of
Rattangarh and his relative Bhola of Jamalpur,
for possessing 10 kg poppy husk. The court also
fined them Rs 1 lakh each.

Mass marriages: The Indian Women Welfare
Committee will organise "Tulsi marriage
ceremony" here at the DAV park on December
2. Mr Mahabir Parsad, Governor of Haryana, will
bless the married couples.
Ration depots: The district Food and Supply
Department cancelled two ration depots, suspended
the supply of another two and seized Rs 1,500
security fee of two depots for the alleged
irregularities. This was stated by Mr Anurag
Rastogi, Deputy Commissioner.
Encroachments: The anti-encroachment drive
launched by the district administration under the
chairmanship of Mr P.K. Sharma, Subdivisional
Officer (Civil), removed about 150 encroachments
from the Sanoli road on Saturday.

Blood donation camp: About 21 girl students
of CMK Girls College donated blood at a camp
organised by the district Red Cross Society and
the local NSS on the college premises on
Saturday.
Attack: Satnam Singh was seriously injured
with sharp edged weapons by two persons near
Moriwala village on the GT road on Saturday.
According to sources, the two followed Satnam
Singh on a motorcycle when he was going on his
scooter, and attacked him.
Arrested: Duta Singh of Alikan village in the
district has been arrested by the Rori police on
Saturday on a charge of criminal intimidation and
house trespass in order to commit an offence.
Mahesh Kumar of the same village, the complainant
said that he was a witness against Duta Singh in
a case, because of which the accused entered his
house and threatened him. A case under Sections
451 and 506, IPC, has been registered.
Case registered: A case under Sections 379
and 430, IPC , has been registered against Mander
Singh, Jaipal Singh and Dalip Singh, all farmers
of Ding, on Saturday on a complaint of the
Subdivisional Officer, Department of Irrigation,
Sirsa. It has been alleged that all three accused
were indulging in the theft of irrigation water
from a canal in the Ding area by using rubber
pipes. All three have absconded.
