hi-tech JAMMU, Nov 27 The Department of Information in Jammu and Kashmir has decided to introduced information technology (IT) in a big way and under this programme the offices in the Directorate and Divisional level will be computerised with latest hardware and software. This was announced at a workshop on application of IT in the Department held here today. The Minister for Information, Mr Ajatshtru, presided over the workshop . Ajatshtru emphasised the need for the Department of Information to go hi-tech in order to cater to the requirements of print and electronic media. The Director Information, Mr S. Panday, explained the main features of the introduction of IT in the Department and said that a scheme has been formulated for setting up a Website of the Information Department to disseminate the information worldwide. Mr Pandey stated that the conventional use of feeding the print and electronic media with information about Government activities was not only time consuming but it lacked precision and speed. He said computerisation, going on internet and other allied activities would help the Department to have better interaction with the media persons, preserve audio visual reference material. Since the state had three regions introduction of the IT would help the Department to receive news items, video and audio cassettes from all the districts. He said a system was being developed so that the electronic media got the video cassettes of Government activities on the same day even the these are held in farflung areas, including the Ladakh region. |
Militants kill NC activist SRINAGAR, Nov 27 Eight persons, including seven foreign militants and an activist of the ruling National Conference, were killed in separate incidents of militancy in the valley since yesterday. The police here said militants shot dead Ghulam Nabi Malik, an activist of the ruling National Conference, after intruding into his house at Chakegohan Vailu, in Kokernag area of Anantnag district last night. Five foreign militants were killed in an encounter with the security forces in the Tilpathri forest area in Kupwara district last evening. Two foreign militants were killed and two jawans injured at Batmohalla, in Baramulla. Reports said militants in hiding fired a search party. The fire was returned and in the exchange of fire, two foreign militants were killed. Two assault rifles and arms and ammunition were also recovered from the site. The Army apprehended a militant, Mohammad Akbar Haji of Potushai, at Chitranaar in Bandipore area of Baramulla district. The militant was injured in an encounter with the troops before he was apprehended. Arms and ammunition were recovered from his possession. Militants fired upon the security guards posted at the house of Habibullah Bhat, former Congress MLC, at Watapora in Bandipore. However nobody was hurt. A jawan was injured during an encounter with the militants at Shrakwara in Baramulla district. Militants hurled a grenade at a picket of the security forces at Batamaloo in the capital city last evening. The grenade missed the intended target and exploded on the road. No damage was caused. Two Pakistani soldiers were killed and at least three injured in retaliatory firing by Indian troops in the Siachen glacier area yesterday, a defence spokesman said here. According to a police spokesman, two civilians were injured in Pakistani firing in Karmara area of Poonch district. The victims were identified as Mohammad Nazir and Miss Shanaza. They have been hospitalised. |
