BATALA

Buffalo thieves nabbed: The Batala police has arrested a gang of buffalo thieves and recovered two buffaloes and a truck from them. Mr Lok Nath Angra, district police chief told the mediapersons on Monday that a special campaign was launched to arrest the culprits. Special nakas were laid and two gangs of buffalo thieves were arrested.

FAZILKA

Killed: Nitin Gosain (23) was crushed under a train while he was trying to cross a railway line on his scooter on Sunday. He died on the spot.
Financial crunch: The Special Secretary Finance, Punjab has reportedly issued telephonic instructions to all district treasury officers in the state to withhold all payments except salaries of employees and pension till further orders. A written circular regarding this was also issued on Friday.

GARHSHANKAR

Condemned: The Kandi Sangharsh Committee has condemned the Railway Ministry for down, grading the stations of Jaijon, Saila and Garhshankar from category 'B' to 'C'. A political conference was organised in front of Jaijon railway station on Sunday and speakers demanded the upgradation of the railway stations.

Diploma engineers: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Diploma Engineers Association (PWD, B and R) Punjab: state president — Mr Vasu Dev Sharma and general-secretary — Mr Nazar Singh.

Office-bearers: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Junior Chamber Mansa: president — Mr Inder Pal Jindal; secretary — Mr Sher Jang Singh Sidhu; treasurer — Mr Ravinder Garg; and vice-president — Dr Naresh Chandra,Mr Krishan Kumar and Mr Ashok Singla.

MOGA

Paddy: Nearly 70,000 bags of paddy procured by the government agencies for storage and transportation have not so far been lifted from Jalal village mandi in the district about, 50 km from here. Several thousand bags of unprocured paddy were also lying there. Farmers have suffered heavy losses due to this.

PATIALA

Theatre festival: The National Theatre Arts Society (NTAS) here would launch an inter-state integration theatre festival covering Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh on November 30. Artistes of the NTAS paid glowing tributes to Jawahar Lal Nehru and organised a cultural programme at NTAS Mandir, here on Sunday evening.

PHAGWARA

Dental fortnight: Twenty five dentures were given free of cost to poor patients and over 1,200 dental patients were checked at the local Civil Hospital during a dental fortnight which concluded on Monday according to the CMO of the hospital, Dr H.P Singh. Medicines were also given free of cost to these patients.
Chetna march: The ‘Khalsa Chetna March’ was welcomed here on Sunday. Mr Jagat Singh Palahi, convener of the regional committee for Khalsa tercentenary celebrations and others received the march. A rally of 100 scooterists sporting ‘kesari’ flags led the march. The march concluded at Sukhchainana Sahib gurdwara.
Sood Sabha: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Sood Sabha here: president — Mr Balram Sood; vice-presidents — Dr S. Mahindra, Dr R.K. Sood and Mr Bratpal Sood; and general-secretary — Mr Partap Rai.
Cane crushing: The Oswal Agro Sugar Mill here will start cane crushing on December 1, according to Mr Arun Bhagat, Chief Executive of the mill. The ceremonial firing of the mills boilers had already been done. The mill would crush over 35 lakh quintals of sugarcane.
Woman burnt: Jaswinder Kaur, died of burn injuries at Talwan village in Phillaur subdivision on Sunday. Mr Baldev Raj, father of the deceased, alleged that his daughter was set on fire by her in-laws. The Bilga police has registered a case under Sections 176 and 304 B of the IPC.

AITUC stir: Members of the local unit of the All-India Trade Union Congress will stage a dharna near The Tribune roundabout on Tuesday to protest against the rising prices of essential commodities. This was stated by Mr Devi Dayal Sharma, general secretary of the unit on Monday.top

FATEHABAD

Elected: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Haryana State Pharmacist Association: president — Mr Raj Kumar; secretary — Mr Upender Anand; vice-president — Mr Tarsem Chand Garg; and treasurer — Mr Subhash Ahuja.

GURGAON

Case registered: On the complaint of a woman of Jhimrawat village the Negina police here has registered a case of rape against a youth of the same village. According to the FIR, the accused entered the house of the victim after midnight when her husband was not at home and raped her. The police has registered a case under Sections 378 and 376 of the IPC.

HISAR

Rape case: The police has registered a case or rape against Pahlwan, a resident of Peeruanwali, near here, for raping a married woman. The police said on Monday that the case was registered under Section 376 of the IPC on the complaint of the woman.

KURUKSHETRA

Elected: The following have been elected officer-bearers of the State Executive Committee of the Haryana PWD Public Health Clerical Association: chairman — Mr Rajinder Kumar Saini (Yamuna Nagar); president — Mr Mehar Singh Nain (Rohtak); general secretary — Mr Rajender Singh Sanhu (Jind); and treasurer — Mr Dhup Singh Malik (Panipat).

SIRSA

Distributed: The Health Minister of Haryana and president of the District Public Relations and Grievances Committee, Mr Om Parkash Mahajan, distributed cheques worth Rs 2 lakh among 37 needy persons under the Rashtriya Pariwar Labh Yojna here on Sunday. The Minister said that the state government was determined to work for the uplift and welfare of persons living below the poverty line. Mr Mahajan also heard grievances of people.
Recovered: The Kharkhauda police on Sunday claimed to have recovered a truck stolen from Sisana village in September last and arrested one person of the same village in this connection.

SONEPAT

Workshop: An eight-day workshop on "Public Relations and Human Rights", organised by the Police Department at the Police Lines here concluded on Monday. The main aim of the workshop was to improve police-public relations and to take measures for tackling crime. More than 50 police officials of Sonepat, Rohtak, Jhejjar, Panipat and Karnal districts participated in the workshop.
Loans: Mr Rajiv Jain, Political Press Adviser to the Chief Minister, distributed Rs 5.59 lakh as loan to 16 members of the Sonepat Municipal Council Karamchari Co-operative Loan Society here on Sunday.
Five arrested: With the arrest of five gangsters, the Ganaur police on Sunday claimed to have solved two cases of robberies, committed at Ganaur and at Mahawati village. The SP, Mr K Selvraj, told mediapersons here on Sunday that the arrested gangsters had been identified as Santosh, alias Jugnu, Surinder, Bal Kishan, Bitoo, alias Yatinder and Anil.
Dewatering operations: The dewatering operations, launched by the district administration in coordination with the Irrigation Department in Sonepat district have almost been almost completed. The Deputy Commissioner, Mr P K Mahapatra, who reviewed the latest position told mediapersons here on Monday that as many as 135 pumping sets had functioned round-the-clock to pump out the rain and storm water from the fields of the farmers.

CHOPAL

Development programmes: More than Rs 3 crore will be spent on various development programmes in Chopal tehsil of Shimla district during the current financial year. This was announced by Mr R L Markanda, Minister of State for Rural Development while speaking at a sports and cultural tournament in Nerwa. The minister also announced a grant of Rs 1 lakh each to the community centre at Nerwa and SD College, for sports stadium.

Declamation contest: The three-day Arya Samaj sammelan concluded here on Sunday. The Kendriya Arya Yuvak parishad organised a declamation contest on "Western and Indian civilisation and contribution of Arya Samaj." Students from various school and colleges participated. Mr Vishal Bazaz of DAV College Banikhet (Chamba), Miss Mridul Kohli of DAV Public School Bagni(Nurpur) and Miss Swati of local BTC Girls High School were adjudged first, second and third, respectively.top
