JALANDHAR
Passports:
Passport applications received at the local passport office up to serial number 402/71605/98 till August 17 have been processed. Passports have been despatched to those whose applications were complete in all respects.

FEROZEPORE
Strike:
Members of the local branch of the All-India Telecom Employees Union, Class III (Namboodni), on Wednesday observed a strike and staged a dharna in front of the GMT Office here. They demanded, among other things, a raise in pay scales and grant of time-bound promotions.
Demanded:
Members of the Senior Citizens' Welfare Association in a press note issued here on Wednesday demanded that gas cylinders should be supplied to them after 20 days instead of 28 days and legal aid should be given to them, free of cost.

NAWANSHAHR
Eye camp:
The S.S. Jain Sabha organised a free eye operation camp at Jain Upasara here. More than 600 patients were examined and 74 were operated upon, Mr Surdershan Kumar Jain, president of the Sabha, said here on Wednesday.

HOSHIARPUR
Wheat sowing:
Capt Avtar Singh Randhawa, (Retd), Director, Agriculture Punjab, addressed a meeting of Chief Agriculture Officers and Agriculture officers of Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Nawanshahr and Ropar here on Wednesday. He said 55 per cent of wheat sowing had been done as compared to 34 per cent last year. Instructions had been issued to Punjab Agro Industries to provide three bags of fertilisers to small farmers.

PHAGWARA
Panch booked:
Rammurti, General Secretary of the Block Congress Committee (rural) and a panch of Bhanoki village, has been booked for cheating and forgery under Sections 420, 120-B and 467, IPC. He was remanded in judicial lock up till November 26 on Wednesday. He had allegedly sold a plot from the Panchayat land illegally under fake name of a woman.

Heritage week: The Chandigarh circle of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) will organise World Heritage Week from Thursday at Archaeological Museum, Ropar. A press note issued here on Friday said the highlights of the week would be photo exhibitions on world heritage monuments in India. Harappan and Buddhist monuments and sites and monuments of the states falling under the jurisdiction of the circle.
Elected:
The following have been elected office-bearers of the Shree Sewa Samiti, Phase I and Phase II Industrial Area, Chandigarh: president — Mr Charanjit Singh Channi; vice-presidents — Mr Naresh Kumar Abbi and Mr Bir Singh, general secretary — Isha Kumar Luthara; and treasurer Mr Jujar Singh.
Released:
The Chief Judicial Magistrate, Mr Sant Parkash, on Friday released Pushpa (25), a resident of Burail village in the union territory, on bail. She was booked by the local police on the charge of indulging in immoral trafficking in the city. Madho Prashad, whose rickshaw she used for her activities, was, however, remanded in judicial lock-up till November 27.
Rally:
Womenfolk of various villages and colonies of the city under the banner of the Gaon Sangarsh Samiti on Friday took out a rally to protest against the demolitions carried out by the Chandigarh Administration in Raipur Kalan. Several children below 12 years also accompanied the procession which started from Daria village. Carrying placards and raising slogans, they submitted a memorandum to the Administrator.

HISAR
Book fair:
A four-day book fair began at Mahavir Stadium here on Wednesday Mrs Mamta Bidhan, chairperson, Child Welfare Council, inaugurated the fair which is being organised by a local publishing house.
Father killed:
Punjab Singh, a farmer was allegedly murdered by his son Balwan Singh at Kirodi village under Agroha police station in the district on Tuesday. A dispute over a way in a field is stated to be the cause of the crime. A case has been registered against Balwan Singh.
Sentenced: The Additional District and Sessions Judge, Mr A.K. Raghav on Wednesday sentenced Dinesh of Bhima Basti, Fatehabad, to 10 year's imprisonment in connection with the murder of his wife, Manju. The court, however, acquitted his two brothers Vinod and Raghav.
Suicide:
A woman allegedly committed suicide on Wednesday by jumping before a moving jeep near Shahpur village bus stand. The woman who was about 40-year-old could not be identified.
Dowry death:
The police has registered a dowry death case against six persons for allegedly killing a young housewife and her one-year-old baby. The father of Babita in a lodged a complaint with the police alleged that her husband Praveen, father-in-law Veersen Jain, mother-in-law, brother-in-law Anil, his wife Dimple and younger brother-in-law Mintoo poisoned her.

GURGAON
Case registered:
The Ferozepore Jhirka police has registered a criminal case against Ibrahim and Akhtar of Dauha village on a complaint filed by the SDO, Haryana Vidyut Corporation. The two clashed with corporation officials who had come to record meter reading in the village.
Sarpanch killed: Issab, a former sarpanch of Sheikhpur village, died on the spot when his motor cycle was hit by a mini-bus near Kamed village. The police has registered a case against the driver of the mini-bus.

YAMUNANAGAR
Agriculture market:
A sum of Rs 500 crore will be spent on the construction of an agriculture market at Rai in Sonepat district. Mr Ved Pal, Chairman, Haryana Agriculture Marketing Board, addressing traders at the food grain market here on Wednesday said Chief Minister, Bansi Lal had agreed to send a high-level delegation abroad to get the latest technology in agriculture market. Nearly 400 acres of land had been acquired for the purpose.

Theft:
In a spate of thefts in the Vikas Nagar area, three burglaries were reported in the locality on Tuesday. Residents have demanded the setting up of a police post.

CHAMBA
Fire:
An old woman was burnt to death, six houses partially burnt and five were gutted in a fire which broke out at Rathiar village near Khajjiar, about 24 km from here on Thursday. Mr K. Sanjay Murti, Deputy Commissioner, said on Friday that the loss was estimated to be Rs 10 lakh

BILASPUR
Community centres:
Twenty community centre buildings will be completed during this financial year in the Gehadwin constituency, Himachal Cooperative Minister Rikhiram Kondal said this while laying the foundation stone of a community centre at Baroti village, about 70 km from here, on Tuesday.

NURPUR
Robbed:
Mr Sunil Kumar, a salesman of a wine shop, was reportedly robbed of Rs 11,500 by two armed youths at gunpoint at Dhameta in Jawali-sub division on Tuesday. Alert villagers nabbed culprit Anil Kumar from Khatiya village and handed him over to the police. A sum of Rs 6500 was recovered from him. The other culprit has absconded. The police has registered a case.

Arrested:
The police claims to have solved the murder case of Keshoram (50) with the arrest of his sons, Vikram Singh and Sanjeev Kumar of Kurukshetra district. The victim reportedly had strained relations with his wife and sons. According to the police, the two brought Keshoram to Renuka on the pretext of paying obeisance where they allegedly murdered him.
