Lok Adalat: Twenty-nine of the 67 cases were settled at a Lok Adalat held here on Monday which included five marriage disputes . A compensation of Rs 3 lakh was given to five accident victims. Mr Dilbagh Singh Johal, chairman, Sub-divisional Legal Services Committee, said the next adalat would be held here on December 5.

FEROZEPORE

Dharna: Members of the Bharatiya Kisan Union held a dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office here on Monday in protest against the "anti-farmer" policies of the government.

GURDASPUR

Cases settled: Thirty cases were settled at a Lok Adalat organised here on Sunday. Mr Gurdev Singh, District and Sessions Judge, was present on the occasion.

HOSHIARPUR

Celebrated: Mr R.N. Gupta, District and Sessions Judge, Hoshiarpur , said that a permanent Lok Adalat would be set up here soon. He was addressing the gathering at a function organised to celebrate Legal Services Day here on Monday.

JALANDHAR

Celebrated: Army Public School, Beas, celebrated its Founders Day and remembered the late Gen B C Joshi, the then Chief of the Army Staff, who laid the foundation stone in November 1993. The Patron of the school Lt-Gen Kamal Davar was the chief guest.

One killed: Jarnail Singh ( 30), a resident of Sandhar Jagir village, was killed in a road accident near Bussainpur village on Sunday.

Demanded: The Agricultural Engineering Students Association in a memorandum to Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal, Union Minister of State for Industries, has demanded the creation of jobs for agricultural engineers in the government sector.
Sought: The Government Pensioners Association has sent a memorandum to the Punjab Chief Minister, Mr Parkash Singh Badal, seeking the early release of the increased DA for pensioners.

Traffic blocked: Students of Lala Lajpat Rai Ayurvedic and Medical College blocked the traffic in front of the city police station on Monday in protest against the failure of the college authorities to conduct the annual examinations.

NAWANSHAHR

Plea: Beneficiaries of the old-age pension scheme here are facing a lot of harassment in opening bank accounts. Mr Kamal Kant Barthwal, President , Nagrik Hitkarini Sabha, has urged the district administration to look into the matter.
Function: GNM School, Mubarkpur, held a prize distribution function here on Sunday. Mr Iqbal Singh, President, Lions Club (Nawanshahr City) while presiding over the function, said the club would adopt the school and provide financial aid to poor students.

Eye camp: As many as 2,000 patients were examined and 150 operated upon in a free eye camp organised by the gram panchayat at Dhotian village on Sunday in memory of Sukhdev Singh, an NRI. Mr Ranjit Singh Brahampura, Minister for Cooperation, Punjab inaugurated the camp.
Mela concluded: A two-day Punjabi cultural fair organised here by the local Panj Darya Sabhyacharak Kendra concluded on Monday. Mr Justice B. Rai of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Mr Sewa Singh Sekhwan, Public Relation Minister, Punjab, and Mr Sucha Singh Langaha, State Industry Minister, Punjab, were present on the occasion.
Mass marriage: The local Citizen's Council solemnised the marriages of 10 poor couples at a function organised here on Sunday. Mr Tarlochan Singh Tur, MP, was the chief guest.

Sanitation drive:A sanitation drive was launched by the Cantonment Board from Topkhana Bazaar here on Monday. Mr J.S. Dhadwad, Executive Officer of the board, said special emphasis would be laid on the cleaning of streets, drains and nullahs.
Nominated: Mr H.K. Gulati has been nominated member of the executive committee of the Haryana State Council for Child Welfare.

BHIWANI

Seminar: The Indian Society of Anaesthetists, Haryana branch, organised a seminar on "Problems of doctors in government and non-government hospitals in town and the district-level and their responsibilities here. Two hundred delegates participated. Dr Rakesh Dua of Hisar was unanimously elected president of the association.

FATEHABAD

Demonstration: Employees of the local branch of the Life Insurance Corporation held a demonstration in front of the local office here on Monday. They were protesting against the proposed introduction of the Insurance Regulatory Authority Bill in Parliament.

HISAR

Workshop: Eight delegates participated in a workshop on the "All- India coordinated research project on medicinal and aromatic plants which concluded here on Sunday. Prof J.B. Chowdhury, Vice-Chancellor, CCS Haryana Agricultural University, inaugurated the workshop.

Legal Services Day: Legal Services Day was observed here on Monday. Ms Kiran Anand Lal, District and Sessions Judge, presided over a seminar which was organised to mark the day. Ms Neelima Shangla, Chief Judicial Magistrate , urged the audience to create awareness among the people about the benefits of legal service.

Charge taken: Mr P.K. Sharma has taken over as Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil) and Mr L.P.S. Tomar as City Magistrate here.
Conference: The Association of Surgeons of Haryana will organise an annual conference at Panipat on November 15, according to Dr R.P. Jindal, Organising Secretary of the association.
Gang busted: The police claims to have busted a gang of robbers with the arrest of four persons. The police recovered stolen goods from them.

SONEPAT

Notification: The Haryana Election Committee has issued a notification for December 19 for the byelection of the Sonepat Municipal Council, Ward 17. The filing of the nomination papers will begin on November 13 and end on November 17. Scrutiny will be done on November 18 and the last date of withdrawal of papers is November 24.
Target: The Haryana Agriculture Department has fixed a target of 1,47,000 hectares of land to be brought under cultivation for rabi crops in the district, Mr P.K. Mahapatra, Deputy Commissioner, said here on Monday.

Three arrested: The police on Monday arrested three persons who were allegedly involved in charas smuggling near Bhootnath temple. The police recovered 17 kg of charas from them. A case has been registered against them.top
