Urged: The Punjab Anti-Corruption Forum has urged the Punjab Government to take steps to check hoarding and black marketing in the state, according to Mr Hari Singh Thakur, Chairman of the forum.

FATEHGARH SAHIB

Camp: The Lions Club, Mandi Gobindgarh, and the Lions Club (Steel City), Mandi Gobindgarh, jointly organised a free eye check-up and operation camp at Mandi Gobindgarh on Sunday. As many as 500 patients were examined and 100 operations performed.
Award: Dr S.S. Lal Mittal, a physician of Rajpura, was given the Excellence Award and a gold medal by the Institute of Economic Studies for excellence in Medical Service.

GURDASPUR

Announced: The State Government will spend Rs 40 crore to raise standard of education in schools, Mr Swarna Ram, Minister of State for Education, said while addressing a gathering at Bhoa village on Sunday.

HOSHIARPUR

Appointed: The PPCC has appointed Mr Ram Rattan as officiating President of the District Congress Committee, Hoshiarpur, according to Mr Bir Devinder Singh, General Secretary, PPCC.
Condolence meeting: A condolence meeting was held here on Monday to condole the death of Thakur Gandhrav Singh, President, DCC, Hoshiarpur, who expired on November 6 at Chandigarh.

KAPURTHALA

Shot dead: Jagmohan Singh (22) of Sher Singh Wala village was allegedly shot dead on Sunday. The police has registered a case.
Sangat darshan: The district administration organised a "sangat darshan" at Dainwind village on Saturday. Mrs Usha R. Sharma, Deputy Commissioner, Mr Iqbal Singh, SSP, and Mr N.S. Baath, SDM, were present on the occasion and heard the grievances of the people.

MALERKOTLA

Function: The local DAV Centenary Senior Secondary School organised a prize distribution function here on Sunday. Mr Balramji Dass Tandon, Minister for Local Bodies, and Mr Nusrat Ali Khan, Minister of State for Sports, were present on the occasion.
Eye camp: The Guru Ravidas Welfare Committee organised a three-day free eye operation camp at Kheri Jatta village in Dhuri subdivision, which concluded on Saturday. The Director Health and Family Welfare, Punjab, spoke on the concluding day. As many as 300 patients were examined and 44 operations performed.

MOGA

Donated: Mr Baljit Singh Brar and Mr Mangal Singh Brar of Bhekha village, who were presently in USA, have donated Rs 60,000 for the construction of building of a veterinary hospital in the village.

PATIALA

Function: Jan Hit Samiti, a local social organisation, at a function held here on Sunday distributed 409 blankets among poor and needy persons and disbursed old-age-pension of Rs 150 per month to 51 persons. A medical-cum-dental check-up camp was also organised in which 400 patients were examined.
Celebrated: Air Force celebrations ended here on Saturday at the Air Force Station. A 'Bara Khana' was also organised at the Airmen's Mess. Earlier, the celebrations had commenced with a 'vijay run' which was flagged off by Mrs Ranjit Gill, President, Air Force Wives' Welfare Association.

Hailed: Mr Amrik Singh Aliwal, President, Youth Wing, SAD, on Sunday hailed the stand of Mr S.S. Ahluwalia, a Senior Congress leader, who had raised his voice against those who were guilty of anti-Sikh riots in Delhi in November, 1984.

Eco quiz: A written eco-quiz will be organised by the Build India Group at DAV College on November 15.This will be open to students of classes 10 to 12.The finals will take place on November 22, a press release of the group said here on Monday.
Library contests: The annual library-related on-the -spot contests will be organised by the Chandigarh Library Association on November 21 at the State Library, Sector 34. The contests will be held for cartoon making, slogan writing, essay writing and handwriting contest.
Children's week: Reedima Kukreja , a nursery class student , was declared best child of the day on the first day of the Children's Week celebrations of KB DAV Centenary Public School, Sector 7, an official release of the school said here on Monday.
Forum formed: A new body — the Common Cause Forum (Northern Zone) Industries — has been formed by local small-scale industry promoters. The objective of the forum is to seek speedy solutions to the problems faced by small-scale promoters at the hands of financial institutions and the Debt Recovery Tribunal, Jaipur. Mr Sukhdev Rai has been elected convener of the the forum.
Blood donated: Officials of the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) donated 179 units of blood during a camp organised here on Monday. Maj Gen R.R. Oberoi (retd) and Mrs Sushila Kumar, wife of late Maj-Gen B.N. Kumar, a former chairman of the BBMB, were among who donated blood. This was the 18th blood donation camp organised by the BBMB in memory of Maj-Gen B.N. Kumar, who was shot dead by militants.
Eye Camp: A total of 325 patients were examined and 15 of them operated upon during a free eye camp at Maloya village here on Monday. The camp was organised by the Lions Club Chandigarh Mid Town.
Rallies held: Members of the Federation of UT Employees and Workers held rallies in various parts of the city to urge employees to participate in a mass rally to be held on November 13. Major demands of the protesters are grant of bonus, regularisation of services of daily wagers, grant of promotions after four, nine and 18 years of service and revised pay scales on Punjab pattern.

AMBALA

Suicide: Neelam, a resident of Mahesh Nagar in the cantonment, allegedly committed suicide on Saturday. In another incident, the highly decomposed body of a man was found in a nullah near Capital Cinema on Saturday.

Office-bearers: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Guru Jambheshwar University Teachers Association: President — Dr Mukul Bishnoi; General Secretary — Dr Vandna Pandey; Joint Secretary — Mr Patra; and Treasurer — Ms Asha Gupta.
Cases registered: The Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam has detected as many as five power thefts in Hansi on Sunday. The police has registered cases against them.

SONEPAT

Sarpanch arrested: The Gohana police has arrested Satyavan, sarpanch of Sirsadh village, in connection with the alleged tampering of records of the gram panchayat and illegal possession of panchayat land. He was arrested on a complaint of the Block Development and Panchayat Officer, Mundlana.
Development: The Haryana Urban Development Authority has decided to spend Rs 1.5 crore on the development of Sector 7 at Gohana. According to official sources, all roads in this sector would be widened besides building a shopping complex.
Lok Adalat: A permanent district-level Lok Adalat has been constituted here under the chairmanship of Mr V.P. Chaudhary, District Sessions Judge, Sonepat. Mrs R.R. Garg, Additional Sessions Judge, and Mr S.K. Kaushik, Chief Judicial Magistrate, have been appointed its official members, whereas Dr P.M. Gaur, a lecturer of the local Hindu College, has been appointed a non-judicial member.
Reception: Residents of Ferozpur Bangar village organised a reception to honour Mrs Krishna Gahalawat, Minister of State for Printing and Stationary, on Sunday. They presented a purse of Rs 15,000 to her which was returned to them for the development of the village.
Staff shortage: Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Kharkhauda, is facing a shortage of staff. This has affected the studies of students.

BILASPUR

Pulse polio programme: The Deputy Commissioner, Mr Ramesh Kapil, said here on Sunday that as many as 32,000 children up to the age of five would be given pulse polio drops on December 6 and on January 17 at 277 centres being set up in the district. The district administration has urged volunteer organisations to come forward for this noble cause.
Dharna: Employees of the Life Insurance Corporation staged a dharna here on Saturday in protest against the proposal to privatise the life insurance business in the country.

SHIMLA

Blood donation campaign: The week-long campaign launched by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad will culminate in the state with a series of blood donation camps on Thursday. The parishad, which is organising the biggest ever campaign on "blood safety" as part of its golden jubilee celebrations, has fixed a target of 1500 blood donations. On the concluding day, Mrs V.S. Rama Devi, Governor, will honour donors who have made more than 25 donations.top
