Arrested: The police here has arrested the owners of two video libraries for showing "blue films". Mr Gurdev Singh Sahota, district police chief, said the police had recovered a large number of obscene video cassettes from the accused. Meanwhile, the police has arrested a resident of Delhi who was encashing stolen cheques at Punjab National Bank, Kot Khalsa.

Sikh council: Sant Sadhu Singh has been elected President of the Sikh Educational Council. His name was proposed by Mr Prithipal Singh, President Nagar Council, Mahilpur.
Dowry death: Dev Raj of Khera village alleged that his daughter, who was married to Jasvir Singh of Mahilpur, has allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison as she was being harassed for not bringing enough dowry. A case has been registered.

Bribe: The Vigilance Bureau has registered a case against Deputy Forest Range Officer, Harbans Lal, posted at Mukerian for allegedly accepting a bribe. The Superintendent of Police of Vigilance Bureau, Mr Bajwa, said the accused had accepted a bribe of Rs 700 from Mr Rachhpal Singh of Fattubarkat for refunding his security deposit.

MOGA

Pensioners: A meeting of the All-Punjab Pensioners Association was held here on Tuesday in which members urged the state government to bring on a par all pre-January 1996 and post-January 1996 employees and revise their pension. They also sought the release of the dearness relief instalments due from July, 1998.

Dead: Dr OP Aggarwal 'Zar Allami', a well-known poet, died on October 30 after a prolonged illness, family sources said on Sunday. He is survived by his wife, five sons and two daughters.
Festival: A Punjabi festival "Mela Melian Da" for popularising Punjabi folk songs was organised by Virasat Cultural Organisation here on Sunday.

Function: The annual prize distribution of Government Senior Secondary School, Sector 45, was organised here on Tuesday. Subedar Sher Singh (retd) was honoured by the Parent Teacher Association for his contribution to the field of social work on the occasion. Others who were honoured included Mr Ajmer Singh (education) and Ms Nisha Maini (teaching).

Crushed: Satish Kumar was crushed to death by a Haryana Roadways bus near Lotan Chungi at Naraingarh on Saturday. A case has been registered.

HISAR

Vehicle thieves: With the arrest of three persons the district police claimed to have busted an inter-state gang of vehicle thieves operating in Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan and Maharashtra. Four cars, one jeep and one Tata Sumo were recovered from them.
Shot dead: Vinod Kumar (35), a taxi driver of Bharat Nagar here, was shot dead in Rajasthan by some unidentified persons. His taxi was reportedly hired for Rajasthan on October 28 by the assailants who shot him dead near Bhadra and took away the car. The body was found on Rajgarh Road.
Mishap: Three members of a family were killed and seven others were injured when a Tata Sumo collided with a mini truck near Loharu on the Loharu-Bhiwani road on Sunday.

NARNAUL

Bus service: Local residents and daily commuters here have urged the Haryana Roadways to introduce a bus service from Delhi to Narnaul at 8.30 p.m. for the convenience of businessmen and daily passengers. They also criticised the cancellation of the bus service from Khatushyamji to Narnaul and Delhi.

Highway robbers: The Ganaur police has launched a hunt to apprehend seven armed highway robbers who had looted a Canter loaded with electronic goods on the GT road near Bari village on November 1. The Canter was on its way from Kundli to Pipli, near Kurukshetra.top

Dies: Kirpa Ram Thakur (85), father of former BJP state finance secretary, Mr Ram Dass Thakur, died of heart attack at the Civil Hospital on Monday. He had been brought to the hospital for a check-up as he was not feeling well.
Pahari divas: The Education Minister, Mr Ishwar Dass Dhiman, has said the government will make an effort to develop "Pahari" languages. He was presiding over a state-level Pahari Divas function, here on Sunday.

Rebel candidate: The Chairman of the Rajiv Gandhi Youth Forum, Himachal Pradesh, Dr SP Katyal, has threatened to field a rebel candidate in the coming Baijnath byelection if the Congress showed favouritism in giving the party ticket.

NAHAN

Checking: To check hoarding, selling of things on the black market and adulteration in essential commodities, godowns and retail outlets were checked at Paonta Sahib and Nahan. This was stated by the Deputy Commissioner, here on Tuesday.top
