AMRITSAR Arrested:
The police here has arrested the owners of two
video libraries for showing "blue
films". Mr Gurdev Singh Sahota, district
police chief, said the police had recovered a
large number of obscene video cassettes from the
accused. Meanwhile, the police has arrested a
resident of Delhi who was encashing stolen
cheques at Punjab National Bank, Kot Khalsa.

council: Sant Sadhu Singh has been
elected President of the Sikh Educational
Council. His name was proposed by Mr Prithipal
Singh, President Nagar Council, Mahilpur.
Dowry death: Dev Raj of Khera
village alleged that his daughter, who was
married to Jasvir Singh of Mahilpur, has
allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison
as she was being harassed for not bringing enough
dowry. A case has been registered.

Bribe: The Vigilance Bureau has
registered a case against Deputy Forest Range
Officer, Harbans Lal, posted at Mukerian for
allegedly accepting a bribe. The Superintendent
of Police of Vigilance Bureau, Mr Bajwa, said the
accused had accepted a bribe of Rs 700 from Mr
Rachhpal Singh of Fattubarkat for refunding his
security deposit.

Pensioners:
A meeting of the All-Punjab Pensioners
Association was held here on Tuesday in which
members urged the state government to bring on a
par all pre-January 1996 and post-January 1996
employees and revise their pension. They also
sought the release of the dearness relief
instalments due from July, 1998.

Dead:
Dr OP Aggarwal 'Zar Allami', a well-known poet,
died on October 30 after a prolonged illness,
family sources said on Sunday. He is survived by
his wife, five sons and two daughters.
