Camp: A polio review camp will be held at the Civil Hospital here on November 13 to review cases of polio-affected persons who had been operated at a camp organised by the Sanatan Dharam Sabha on September 15.

"Preserve religion": The president of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, Mr Gurcharan Singh Tohra, on Sunday urged the Sikhs to preserve their religious, historical and cultural heritage. He was addressing a social function at Bhai Gurdas Hall here.

Project week: An exhibition was organised by students of Darshan Academy to display their work done during the recent "project week". Various activities were organised, including sampling of plants, pot paintings etc. The exhibition concluded on Saturday.

Award: The Check Population Movement has announced the introduction of a population award which is to be given every year in September. Nominations are invited till July 31, 1999. The award will carry a cash award of Rs 50,000 and a citation.

MUKTSAR

Compensation: The President of the district Consumer Redressal Forum, Mr DRS Thakur has ordered Mr Jagsir Singh of Fatta Kera village to pay Rs 4,200 to VK Tractors here and dismissing the complainant's petition. The complainant had demanded a compensation of Rs 50,000 from the company for allegedly supplying a defected tractor and then replacing its engine with defected one in the guarantee period of one year. Neither the complainant appeared before the court, nor he could produce any evidence in support of his claim.
Cheques distributed: Mr Manpreet Singh Badal, MLA, Gidderbaha, has distributed cheques for Rs 7.34 lakh to 142 beneficiaries under the state government's "shagan scheme" at Gidderbaha on Sunday.

Farmers' camp: The district Agriculture Department on Saturday organised a block-level "farmers training camp" at Jadla, 10 km from here. The camp was inaugurated by the Chief Agriculture Officer, Dr R. Rampal. He said a drive had been launched to issue licences to the dealers to ensure quality seeds, fertilisers and pesticides for the farmers.
Rallies: Mrs Gurkanwal Kaur, president, Punjab Mahila Congress, said here on Saturday rallies would be organised in the state to awaken women about their rights and to mobilise them to rise against the social evils.
Patrolling: Mr RK Verma, Addtional District Magistrate, under the Punjab Village and Small Town Control Act, 1918, has ordered 24-hour patrolling of the rail tracks, canals and drains in the district by able-bodied men. The orders will remain in force till December 28.
Yuva morcha: The following have been elected office-bearers of the local unit of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha: president — Mr Vivek Kumar; vice-presidents — Mr Ashok Sanawa, Mr Mohit Jain, Mr Jatinder Singh Garcha and Mr Sukhwinder Singh; general secretary — Mr Sukhwinder Singh Bheen; and treasurer — Mr Harish Joshi.

Pay scales: The Punjab Para-Medical Staff Association of the PSEB here has criticised the state government’s decision to withhold the grant of the four-tier pay scales assured progression scheme for officers. This was stated by the assocation’s president, Dr Naresh Raj, here on Sunday.

Pensions: Under the state government's new old-age pension scheme, 25,350 persons in the district have been sanctioned pensions by the District Security Office here.

Lions Club Chandigarh Greater: Eightytwo persons were administrated the first dose of Hepatitis B vaccination at a camp organised by the Lions Club Chandigarh Greater in coordination with Sekhon Nursing Home in Sector 30 on Saturday.
Condemned: Members of the Shakti Vihar Residents Welfare Association at its meeting held here on Monday condemned the demolitions in Raipur Kalan. They demanded an enquiry by a judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and a compensation from the Administration.

Award: Mr Prithvi Singh Ravish, a local resident, has been conferred upon the "Outstanding Personality Award" by Management Studies Promotion Institute, Delhi. The award was conferred at a function held in the Constitution Club, Delhi, on Friday.top

AMBALA

Bus service: Mr Anil Vij, the local MLA, on Sunday flagged off a local bus service from the military dairy farm. The bus service had been suspended eight years back by Army officials.

GURGAON

School upgraded: Mr Ram Bilas Sharma, Education Minister, Haryana, has upgraded the local Girls High School to 10+2 and also changed its name to Shahid Lt. Atul Kataria Girls Senior Secondary School.
Free eye camp: The local Lions Club will organise a free eye operation camp at Yasin Meo Degree College, Nuh, from November 3 to 11.

JIND

Arrested: The police here arrested Sunil and Kuldip on Saturday for the alleged kidnapping of Mr Prem Singh, a jeweller, and Mr Ishwar Chand, a property dealer, both local residents. Their accomplice, Baljit has, absconded. A case has been registered under Sections 364 and 34 of the IPC.

KURUKSHETRA

Stolen: A red-coloured Yamaha motor cycle, (HR-07-9004) belonging to a university employee, was stolen from the parked area in front of the administrative block of the University, here on Wednesday. A case has been registered.

PANIPAT

Rally: The district unit of the Indian National Lok Dal organised a rally on Saturday to protest against the failure of the district administration to provide civic amenities to residents and the increase in the house taxes.
Dewatering fields: Mr Kanwal Singh, Development and Panchayat Minister, Haryana, assured farmers that the accumulated water in their fields would be drained out by November 15. He was addressing a meeting after the inauguration of a newly constructed room at Government Girls Primary School, Chulkana village, 24 km from here, on Sunday.

Attacked: A teenaged girl of Kharkhoda village was injured on Sunday when a youth of Sampla town attacked her with a knife. The attacker had been reportedly making overtures towards the girl.

SIRSA

Jeep recovered: The police here has recovered a jeep from Raj Singh of Shakermandori village in the district on Saturday. According to sources, the jeep was stolen from the house of Kalu Ram of Pilimandori village on October 28. The accused has been arrested.

SONEPAT

Probe: Mr SP Sachdeva, former governor of the Rotary International, on Sunday sought a high-level probe into the use of substandard materials being used in the construction and repair of roads by certain official agencies.
Killed: One person was killed on the spot and two others injured when a Matador collided with a three-wheeler on the Sonepat-Gohana road near Panchayat Bhavan, here on Sunday. The victim was identified as Rakesh (19) of the Sunder Sanwari area of the city. A case has been registered.
Union: The following persons have been elected office-bearers of the Sonepat Vegetable and Fruit Commission Agents Association : President — Mr Kanwar Singh Khatri; Vice-President — Mr Jagdish Singh Saini; Secretary — Mr Shiv Dayal Sachdeva; and Treasurer — Mr Rameshwar Dass.
Suicide cases: Three cases of suicide were reported in the city and its surrounding villages on Saturday. The victims have been identified as Raghbir (20) of Prabhu Nagar Mandi; Babli (20) of Malviya Nagar, both local residents, and Anjoo (17) of Bakhtawarpur village.

Roof collapse: Usaf Khan (35) died on the spot while three members of his family were injured when the roof of their cow shed collapsed on Saturday at Gabhar village in Jawali subdivision. According to reports, the man was repairing the roof when the mishap occurred.
Beopar mandals: The local SDM called a meeting of the beopar mandals of Nurpur and Jassur on Saturday and directed shopkeepers selling essential commodities, food items and vegetables to display rate lists at their shops.
