executive meeting Tribune News Service NEW DELHI, July 29 A three-day meeting of the national executive of the BJP will be held at Jaipur from August 21. The schedule of the meeting, first after the BJP president, Mr Kushabhau, Thakre, took over the party's reins at Gandhinagar plenary session, was announced by the party general secretary, Mr M. Venkaiah Naidu today. Asked if the Farooq Abdullah government should be dismissed from its failure to control the law and order situation in the state, Mr Naidu said dismissing a government in such a sensitive state would not solve the problem. CPP meeting put off NEW DELHI, July 29 (PTI) The general body meeting of the Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP), which was scheduled to be held today, has been postponed. The CPP secretary, Mr Prithviraj Chavan, said the meeting had been deferred in view of the current session of Parliament being extended up to August 5. The general body meeting was now likely to be held on August 4, he added. India-Japan talks TOKYO, July 29 (PTI) The secretary level annual talks between India and Japan which were due in June but did not take place in the wake of nuclear tests in the subcontinent may now resume, media reports said here. Japanese Vice Minister Masahiko Komura and Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission Jaswant Singh have agreed on the resumption of the annual talks between New Delhi and Tokyo, said reports from Manila. The reports, however, did not specify the date for the talks. Trinamool MP quits NEW DELHI, July 29 (PTI) Trinamool Congress MP Sudip Bandopadhyay has resigned from the Business Advisory Committee of the Lok Sabha alleging his leader Mamata Banerjee was not being invited for BAC meetings. In a letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker, Mr G.M.C. Balayogi, Mr Bandopadhyay said he was tendering his resignation from the committee in protest against Ms Banerjee not being called for BAC meetings. He told PTI that important decisions were being taken by the BJP-led government without consulting its major allies. Clinton's visit WASHINGTON, July 29 (PTI) President Bill Clinton's visit to India and Pakistan depended on the outcome of the talks the USA is having with the two countries to make them sign the CTBT and NPT. Stating this Assistant Secretary of State Karl F Inderfurth hoped that there would be enough progress in Deputy Secretary of State Strobe Talbott's talks with India and Pakistan "which will allows us to recommend to the President that he travel to the region in November." Rebels file plea PANAJI, July 29 (PTI) The 10 member breakaway group of the Congress has filed a petition before the Goa Bench of the Mumbai High Court challenging the state assembly Speaker's order 'restraining' the group from participating in the proceedings of the House. The advocate of the group, christened the Goa Rajiv Congress Party (GRCP), today contended there was no provision under the 10th schedule of the Constitution to grant ad interim order to restrain them. Miyazawa accepts job TOKYO, July 29 (AFP) Japan's ex-premier Kiichi Miyazawa today accepted an offer to be the next Finance Minister, a report by Jiji Press said. "Miyazawa finally accepted the offer with pleasure," Prime Minister-designate Keizo Obuchi was quoted as saying by Jiji Press after meeting the 78-year-old veteran. Cong team NEW DELHI, July 29 (PTI) The Congress today sent a three-member team of MPs to Gujarat to probe reported incidents of atrocities on religious and linguistic minorities in the state. The team comprising Shiv Shankar, Vyalar Ravi and Vimla Verma would submit its findings to party President Sonia Gandhi. Congress spokesman Ajit Jogi told reporters here. He said such type of incidents in a BJP-ruled state meant emergence of a new type of fundamentalism in the country. |
