Case registered
The Tanda police has registered a case under Sections 363 and 366 of the IPC against Parveen Kumar, a teacher of Khural Khurd, for allegedly abducting Surjit Kumar, a plus two student, of the same village.
Elected
The following have been elected office-bearers of the Punjab Police Pensioners Welfare Association: chairman — Mr Ram Rakha Chaudhary; and vice-chairman — Mr Atma Singh Bajwa.
Three arrested
The Hajipur police on Wednesday registered a case under Sections 304-B and 201, IPC, against Karan Singh, his mother Pushpa Devi and brother Raj Kumar — all residents of Itian village — for allegedly throwing the body of Suman Sarita, wife of Karan Singh, in a canal. She was reportedly being tortured for not bringing enough dowry.

Teej celebrations
The Baba Sheikh Farid Blood Donors Council will organise a cultural programme on Teej on Saturday at Rock Garden, a press note said here on Friday. Songs and dances will be the highlight of the function, the note added.

Section 144

The District Magistrate, Mr Anil Kumar, by an order under Section 144, Cr P.C., has prohibited the assembly of five persons or more and carrying of weapons at the Industrial Training Institute and in an area of 500 metres around the institute's examination centre till July 29.

Succumbed

Mr Shiv Dutt Thakur, alias Shiva, a former president of the Students Union of the Government Postgraduate College here, succumbed to his injuries at the local Civil Hospital on Wednesday. He was shot at by certain students when he was going to the college.

Poisoning

Sarla Devi (23), wife of Rajesh Kumar, died of poisoning at a hospital here on Wednesday while Veena Devi, sister of Rajesh Kumar, is said to be out of danger. Both had allegedly consumed poison for reasons unknown. They belonged to Seedha village.
Tree plantation
The Nagar Vikas Sabha here has demanded plantation of saplings on both sides of roads to make the town beautiful. This was stated by the convener of the sabha, Mr Akshar Prakash Sharma, on Thursday.


KANGRA
Suicide

Shivani (16), a plus two student of Garli Pragpur, allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison as she could not prepare a physics lesson for which she had to take a test, according to the SSP, Mr K.C. Sadayal.
Rotary Club: The following have been elected office-bearers of the local Rotary Club: president — Prof H.V. Vaidya; vice-president — Mr N.K. Kaistha; secretary — Prof K.C. Gupta; and joint secretary — Mr D.R. Sharma.

Grants

The district welfare committee has passed the grants to be given to the members belonging to the Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes and Other Backward Classes in the first four months for the year, according to the Deputy Commissioner, Mr R.D. Dhiman. The grants will be used for various development and welfare programmes.
