Water coolers
The Fellows Club has decided to install water coolers outside the railway station and bus stand. One such cooler was inaugurated by Mr Rajinder Singh Jakhar, chairman, Fazilka Cooperative Sugar Mills, outside Civil Hospital on Sunday.

FEROZEPORE
Pollution camp
The EME Battalion of the Army organised free pollution check-up camps here and at Jalalabad between July 15 and July 21. According to a press note issued on Wednesday, 155 vehicles were tested during the period.

Office-bearers
The following have been elected office-bearers of the local United India Insurance Officers Association: president — Mr D.K. Soni; and general secretary — Mr R.P. Sharma.

Elected
The following have been elected office bearers of the local Punjab State Services Federation: president — Mr Swarn Singh; senior vice-president — Mr Amrik Singh; general secretary — Mr Jagdev Singh and treasurer — Mr Bakhtawar Singh.

Directivetop
The local administration has taken measures to regulate traffic and ensure pollution control in the district. Two-wheeler drivers have been directed to wear helmets.
Drinking water
Villagers of this district expressed unhappiness over an acute shortage of hygienic drinking water. They complained that reservoirs in their villages had not been filled for months together due to the failure of water supply system.
Killed
Two turbaned middle-aged unidentified men travelling by a car, were killed on the spot when their car allegedly collided with a stationary vehicle on Saturday near Panjgrain village, 22 km from here on the Moga-Kotkapura road.
Demonstration
A large number of farmers on Saturday staged a demonstration on the GT Road and blocked traffic near the Dagru village, 12 km from here on the Moga-Ferozepore road against "indiscrimination" being meted out by certain staff members of the PSEB.

PHILLAUR
Killed
Balwinder Singh (26), and his three-year-old son, Sunny, were killed on the spot while his wife, Binder, sustained serious injuries when the scooter, on which they were travelling, was hit by a bus near Motipur village on Saturday.

SAS NAGAR
CSD canteen
A Western Command CSD Canteen was inaugurated in Sector 71 here on Wednesday by Lieut-Gen H.R.S. Mann, Chief of Staff of the Command. Ex-servicemen have also demanded the setting up of an MI room in the town.

Dental camp
A dental check-up camp was organised by the Rotary and Inner-wheel Club Chandigarh Central at Haryana Roadways workshop where 300 employees were examined. Mr Parveen Kumar, General Manager of the Depot, inaugurated the camp.

HISAR
Crushed
A youth was crushed to death by a Haryana Roadways bus in the bus stand area on Thursday. He reportedly slipped while boarding the bus.
Murdered
A man allegedly murdered his wife with a sharp- edged weapon in Mangalisurtia village in Hisar district on Wednesday. An altercation with the wife was stated to be the cause of the crime. A case under Section 302 of IPC, has been registered against the accused, Khushiram.


PANCHKULA
FPAI
The Founder's Day of the Family Planning Association of India (FPAI) was celebrated by the local branch of the FPAI at a function organised here on Thursday. As many as 60 persons participated in an orientation training course on 'sexual and reproductive health' organised on the occasion.
Teej celebrations
The local unit of the Bharat Vikas Parishad will celebrate "Teej" here on July 26. The state Finance Minister, Mr Charan Dass Shorewala, will be the chief guest.

PANIPAT
Open darbar
A block-level open darbar was recently organised at Samalkha, 18 km from here, to solve public problems. It was presided over by Mr J.D. Arora, City Magistrate.
Low voltage
Resentment prevails here among people over unannounced power cuts and power supply at low voltage.

Cleanliness drive
The Naujawan Sabha of Begu village launched a cleanliness campaign at the village, according to Mr Jagdish Manga, press secretary of the sabha on Wednesday.
Missing
Rishikesh (17), Ram Murti (19) and Hoshyar Singh (16) of Raipura village reportedly disappeared from their village on Sunday. According to sources they were unemployed and searching for job.
Run over
Mohar Singh (84) of Dublama village in Mohindergarh district was run over by a train on Tuesday. While, crossing a railway line at Chattergarh Patti.

SONEPAT
Seized
The Rai police raided an IMFL godown at Badkhalsa village on Wednesday on a tip-off and seized 16,800 quarters of English wine worth over Rs 3 lakh from there. A case under the Excise Act has been registered against the culprits who escaped. The SP, Mr K Selvraj, told mediapersons here on Thursday that the culprits had been identified as Satvir of Badkhalsa village, Veer Bhan, Ashok Kumar and Vinod all from Sonepat.
Arrested
With the arrest of three persons, the CIA staff of Gohana on Wednesday claims to have busted an inter-state gang of automobile thieves operating in parts of Haryana and Rajasthan for the past few months. The arrested persons have been identified as Satpal, alias Pala Saini and Rakesh Saini of Titauli village (Rohtak) and Devinder of Jindran village (Rohtak). The police seized four stolen motor-cycles, a colour TV and a VCR from them.

Theft
Electronic goods worth Rs 1.5 lakh were stolen from a shop on the railway road near the Nirankari Bhavan here on Tuesday night. The stolen goods included colour TV sets, stereo systems and washing machines.
Blockade
Traffic on the Sonepat-Gohana road was held up for about two hours on Wednesday by residents of the area in protest against the killing of a 10-year-old girl Meena allegedly after being knocked down by a four-wheeler. The SDO, Mr Balwan Singh, along with the police tried to pacify the residents who agreed to lift the blockade when they were assured that a speed-breaker would be constructed on the road.

BILASPUR

Traffic regulation
The administration will enforce one-way traffic from July 24 to August 3 on the roads leading to the Naina Devi shrine in view of the Shravan Ashtami fair. Vehicles from the Chandigarh side will adopt the Toba-Naina Devi route, while those returning will go through Kanch-ka-Mor or on the Bhakra Nangal route.

NURPUR
MLA's claim
Mr Rakesh Pathania, the state general secretary of the BJP Kisan Morcha and the local MLA, in his statement here on Sunday claimed that the state government had been taking steps to solve the problem of scarcity of drinking water in the Nurpur assembly constituency.

Sales tax
The Himachal Pradesh Photographers Association on Tuesday urged Chief Minister P.K. Dhumal to drop the proposal to levy sales tax on photographs as it was against the policy to promote tourism.
