Saplings planted
The local Rotary Club as part of the vanamahotsav programme planted 150 saplings in the premises of Ram Sharnam here on Sunday. Mr Charanjit, Deputy Superintendent of Police, was the chief guest on the occasion.

Training camp
The local Doaba Cooperative Sugar Mills organised a farmers' training camp at the mill premises on Saturday. The aim of the camp was to familiarise sugarcane growers of the area with the latest techniques in sugarcane farming. Dr Nazar Singh, Cane Adviser, Sugarfed, Punjab, advised farmers to sow COJ-83, COP-211, COS 8436 and COJ-85 varieties of sugarcane in the month of October.
Power supply
Mr A.K. Sood, Superintending Engineer of the PSEB here, said on Saturday that uninterrupted power supply for eight to 10 hours was being provided to the farmers for sowing paddy. He said 11 KV lines and LD system had been augmented and the capacity of 66 KV substations, at Balachaur, Aur and Mukandpur had been increased.
Embezzlement
Mr Karnail Singh, AR of the cooperative societies of the district, here on Friday said an embezzlement of funds to the tune of Rs 10.50 lakh had been detected in the agricultural cooperative societies of Udhowal, Rail Mazara, Rakkeran Dhahan, Musa Puri, Langeri, Mubarak Pur, Phanweran and Kaul Garh villages. He said Satwant Singh, a former salesman of the Ghataron Cooperative Society, and Subash Chander, a former secretary of the Kathgarh Cooperative Society, had been sent to jail for the embezzlement of Rs 1.77 lakh and Rs 5 lakh, respectively.

Deputation
A deputation of the Chandigarh District (Rural) Congress Committee, led by its president, Mr Satpal, met the Home Secretary on Monday to demand that "rehras" carrying more load than prescribed should be challaned under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
Denial
Mr Santresh Rahi, president of the local unit of Rashtriya Laloo Brigade, on Monday denied that the local unit of the Brigade had been dissolved.

BHIWANI
Hospital waste
The health authorities here have taken steps to check the dumping of hospital waste outside hospitals and private nursing homes in the town and in burning the waste in the newly set up incinerator at the General Hospital here . This was stated here by Mr Krishan Kumar, Deputy Commissioner.
Ahimsa rath
The ahimsa rath, of the All-India Anti Meat Parishad visited the town on Saturday. Mr Ram Bhajan Agarwal, Minister of State for Home, welcomed the rath. The need to ban cow slaughter was stressed on the occasion.


FARIDABAD
Arrest ordered
The Judicial Magistrate, Mr Rakesh Singh, has ordered the arrest of two employees of a finance company against whom a case had been registered by the police for allegedly cheating a large number of depositors here to the tune of several lakhs of rupees.

KURUKSHETRA
Teachers' march
Members of the Kurukshetra University Teachers Association (KUTA) will stage a march in front of Parliament on Tuesday for the acceptance of their demands. Dr Saminder Jit Singh, secretary, KUTA, said the association would also support the one-day token strike call given by All-India Federation of University and College Teachers Organisations on August 4.
Sentenced
The Additional District and Sessions Judge, Mr J.D. Chandna, sentenced Daljit Singh, a resident of Khatoh village of Patiala district in Punjab, to 10 years' imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1 lakh in connection with smuggling of poppy husk. District police chief, Mr Y.P. Singhal, said on Sunday that Daljit Singh was arrested under the Anti-Narcotic Act and 9 kg of poppy husk was seized from him.
Elected
Prof Ranbir Singh, Dean, Faculty of Social Science of Kurukshetra University, has been elected member of the executive committee of the Indian Association of Social Science Institutions up to June 2000.
Power theft
A case of power theft, worth over Rs 9 lakh, was detected by an HSEB raiding party at a cattle feed manufacturing unit, situated on the Kurukshetra-Ladwa road, 8 km from here, on Friday.

Plea
Residents of Ateli Mandi and nearby villages have urged the Haryana Roadways authorities to halt buses at the newly built roadways bus stop at Ateli, which was inaugurated recently .
Shortage
Farmers here have complained of the shortage of good quality of bajra seeds. They have demanded that certified bajra seeds along with fertilisers should be made available at the district headquarters.

Run over
An unidentified man, aged around 40, was run over by train on the Chandigarh-Ambala track near Sector 19 here on Monday.


ROHTAK
Dharna
The Haryana Karamchari Mahasangh will stage a dharna at Chandigarh on July 22 in protest against the "casual attitude" of the government towards its long-pending demands. This was stated here on Sunday by Mr M.L. Sehgal, general secretary of the sangh.

Dead
The wife of a railway employee here died after she accidentally consumed some celphos tablets on Saturday. No case has been registered in this connection.

BILASPUR
Drinking water schemes
The state Health and Family Welfare Minister Mr Jagat Prakash Nadda on Saturday declared that 28 villages would be provided with potable drinking water during the current financial year. He said work would start soon on the Rs 14-lakh "panch drinking water supply scheme" and the Rs 10-lakh "sarti-phatch drinking water supply scheme".
Financial aid
The District Red Cross Society gave aid worth Rs 78000 to needy persons during the last financial year. Presiding over a meeting of the society on Saturday Deputy Commissioner Ramesh Chand Kapil urged members of the society to take initiatives to increase the membership of the society and also to associate banks, students, mahila mandals and yuvak mandals in helping the needy.
