Camp
As many as 700 students of the local Kendriya Vidyalaya, Air Force Station, were examined on Thursday at a medical camp organised by the Lions Club.
Bus fares
The newly elected sarpanch of the gram panchayat, Chauhanke, urged the SDM, Mr N.S. Walia, here on Friday, to check the practice of overcharging by private bus operators passing through his village.

Dharna
Over 300 persons owing allegiance to the Punjab Government Pensioners Association held a dharna in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner here on Friday in protest against the non-implementation of the recommendations of the pay commission and removal of anomalies.
Arrested
The district police on Friday arrested Tirath Ram, Surinder Kumar and Bandi, all local residents, for allegedly committing a theft on the night of July 15 and recovered property worth Rs 15,000 from their possession.

Resentment
Resentment prevails among residents of villages located on the Indo-Pak border in this district over inadequate medical facilities and the fact that most of the posts of doctor are lying vacant.

HOSHIARPUR

Burned
Sarvjit Kaur (35) was allegedly beaten and burned by Gurdip Singh of Susan village in her house at Garoya village on Thursday, police sources said on Friday. The accused suspected that the deceased's brothers had tipped off the police leading to the booking of a case against him. A case under Section 302 of the IPC has been registered.

Defraud
Raju Baghla, proprietor of the Vishkarma Transport Company, Bathinda, has been booked under Sections 420, 406, 468 and 471 of the IPC for allegedly defrauding S.D. Rice Mills of 200 quintals of rice worth Rs 2,00,000.

KAPURTHALA

Meeting
Presiding over the meeting of the District Development and Planning Commission was held on Thursday at the local Yojna Bhawan. Mr Manjit Singh Calcutta, Minister for Higher Education, directed officers to utilise funds allotted for development works. Later, he redressed complaints at a District Removal of Grievances Committee meeting.

KHARAR

Shops closed
All local chemists closed their shops on Thursday in protest against the alleged harassment of a chemist of SAS Nagar by some health officers. Shops in other parts of the district also remained closed due to which the people had to face problems.

Complained
Residents of this town on Thursday complained of kerosene shortage. They urged the authorities concerned to maintain the supply as a number of consumers have to return empty-handed.

Illicit liquor
Ajay Singh of the local Chahal Nagar and Manminder Singh of Kalam village were booked under the Excise Act on Thursday for the alleged smuggling of 14 bottles of illicit liquor in a car.

Murdered
Lalu Ram, a chowkidar, was allegedly knifed to death by robbers when he challenged them near the Panjlasa Chowk in Naraingarh on Wednesday. A case under Section 302 of the IPC has been registered.
Killed
Prem Dutt, a local resident, was killed when the autorickshaw in which he was travelling was hit by a truck on Thursday. A case has been registered.

FARIDABAD

Tax evasion
The sales tax authorities on Wednesday intercepted a truck which was carrying pulses on fake documents to evade tax. A penalty of Rs 50,000 was realised from the owner of the goods on the spot, according to Mr Mukesh Gambhir, Deputy Excise and Taxation Commissioner (East). He said that during the past one week, fines amounting to Rs 8.14 lakh had been imposed on tax evaders.

Common use land
The Development and Panchayat Department has earned Rs 2,54,40,000 by leasing out 6,839 acres of land for common use in the district. This is about Rs 27 lakh more than the proceeds of last year, according to the Deputy Commissioner, Mr P.C. Bidhan.
Competition results
The District Children Welfare Council organised various competitions for women and children at the local Bal Bhavan on Thursday on the occasion of the first anniversary of this district. Reena Soni and Pooja Mittal were declared first in the "mehndi rachaao" competition, Bhawna and Kavita Goyal got the second and third places, respectively. In the clay modelling competition, Poonam Rani was declared first, while Sunita and Mamta were declared second and third, respectively.

Goods recovered
The crime branch of the district police has arrested Ashok Kumar of Mahabir Colony, Ladwa, in connection with various theft cases. Goods worth Rs 21,000 have been recovered from his possession.

Abduction
The police here has registered a case against four local youths — Naresh, Satish, Surender, and Chaudhery Sahab — for the alleged abduction of the daughter of Mr Shyam Kishan, a local resident.
Electrocuted
Suresh Kumar (23) of Dhamar village was electrocuted on Friday when he touched an electric wire lying on the ground while cutting grass.
Arrested
Bhupender of Gatauli village and Rajesh of Nindana village were arrested by the Sadar police on Wednesday and a stolen car recovered from their possession. A case under Sections 379, 411, 420 and 114,144, IPC, was registered against them.

Snatched
Two persons on a motor cycle reportedly snatched Ms Kiran's golden chain here onThursday when she was going on a rickshaw.
Recovered
The decomposed body of Phoola Ram, a jeep driver of Saktakhera village, was recovered on Thursday. He had fallen in the Sundernagar distributary near Lohgarh village in Mandi Dabwali subdivision on Saturday.
Electrocuted
Mohinder Singh (30), a resident of Rania town, was electrocuted on Thursday, when he tried to start a fan. In another incident Pradeep, an infant, was also electrocuted when he touched a cooler in his house on Thursday.
Succumbed
Mohan Lal (40), a truck driver of Mandi Dabwali, succumbed to his burns at the local Civil Hospital here on Thursday. The deceased received serious burns while preparing food at his house two days ago.
Victimised
Mr Jai Chand, a senior leader of the Kisan Sangarsh Samithi, alleged here on Friday that the local farmers were being victimised and harassed by the HSEB authorities. He said directions had already been given to officials concerned to replace a transformer at Ram Nagira village, but it had not been done so far.

Boycott call
The Haryana Industrial Training Technical Karamchari Kalyan Sangh on Friday gave a call to all employees working in the government Industrial Training Institutes to boycott the annual examination beginning from July 20 in protest against the non-fulfilment of their demands by the Haryana government.
Killed
Om Parkash, a resident of Nizampur village, was killed when he was allegedly attacked by armed persons on Thursday. According to the police he was rushed to Medical College and Hospital, Rohtak, where he succumed to his injuries. A case has been registered.

The Chandigarh Parents’ Association on Friday urged the police to educate the public about the recent Punjab and Haryana High Court judgement on traffic management. A meeting of the association urged the public to follow traffic rules and regulations.
Seminar
A seminar on "Development of Scheduled Castes for the last 50 years of Independence" will be organised by the North India Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Welfare Association in DAV College on July 19, a press note said here on Friday. Mr H. Hanumanthapa, chairman of the National Commission for SC and ST will preside over and Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, will be the chief guest.

BILASPUR

Ban order
Deputy Commissioner R.C. Kapil passed an order on Friday under the Motor Vehicles Act, banning vehicles carrying loads above nine tonnes on the two bailey bridges at Gambhrolla on National Highway 21 with a view to protecting these bridges from damage. He has also asked drivers of heavy vehicles not to park their vehicles on either end of these bridges.

Rate lists
All shopkeepers in the district have been directed to display their rate lists at a prominent place in their shops for the consumers. These instructions were issued by Mr S.R. Thakur, Additional District Magistrate, here on Thursday at a meeting with office-bearers of the Beopar Mandal.

Accident
Seshali Devi was killed on the spot after being hit by a car at Bhali on Wednesday. A case has been registered.

A two-day state-level seminar on the Swadeshi Jagran Manch, will start here on July 26. As many as 100 delegates from the state will take part.
