Threatened: Veteran CPI leader, Satya Pal Dang has sought the intervention of Chief Minister, Parkash Singh Badal to accept the demands of the medical and dental teachers of three medical colleges in the state. In a statement here on Saturday, he said that teachers had threatened to abstain from hospital duties. Meanwhile, the PCMS Association, Punjab, and the Junior Doctors Association has supported the demands.

No salary: A meeting of the employees of the Government-Aided Privately Managed Schools of Gurdaspur district was held here on Friday at the local Guru Nanak Khalsa Senior Secondary School, under the chairmanship of Mr Harbhajan Singh Bajwa. He alleged that employees were not paid salaries since April due to delay in the release of grants-in-aid.Top

HOSHIARPUR
Cases registered: The Deputy Commissioner has ordered the registration of a case under Sections 379, 409, 511 and 120B, IPC, against Mr Harsh Kumar, Divisional Forest Officer, Garhshankar, Mr Avtar Singh, Forester, Mr Daulat Ram, Forest Guard, Mr Ashwani Kumar and others for allegedly misappropriating the timber from the forest depot of Garhshankar. The inquiry conducted by the Additional Deputy Commissioner revealed that the Divisional Forest Officer on May 27, unauthorisedly tried to lift timber from the forest depot.

School timings: The Deputy Commissioner, Gurdaspur, has ordered the change of timings of the government schools. The middle, high and senior secondary schools will open at 8 a.m. and close by 2 p.m. and the primary schools will open at 8 a.m. and close by 1 p.m., with immediate effect, according to Mr Bishan Dass Sharma, District Education Officer (Secondary).Top

2 buried alive: Two persons identified as Giga Khan and Bhura Singh were buried alive while digging 30-feet deep well for the commissioning of electric motor for tube well in the fields of Bachan Singh at Pakhokalan in Barnala subdivision the district, yesterday, the police said on Sunday
The farmers in the district have to dig deep pits due to decline in subsoil water table.

Two arrested: The District Food and Supplies Department has launched a drive against the illegal sale of kerosene in the city. According to the District Food Controller, a team raided two premises in Sector 15 and seized 50 litres of kerosene from Manoj and 80 litres from Ashok on Friday. Manoj was arrested but Ashok escaped.

Camp: A 21-day training camp on dairy farming organised by the District Dairy Development Department and the Krishi Gyan Kendra concluded here on Friday. Dr S.S. Wadhwa, District Dairy Development Officer, said in the current year the target was 150 commercial and 28 mini dairy farms.

SONEPAT
No trust move: A no-confidence motion was passed against Mr Dharam Chand, Sarpanch of Mauzam Nagar village, at a special meeting held in the office of the Block Development and Panchayat Officer in Kharkhauda on Saturday. As many as 133 of the 241 members of the gram sabha were present while 126 members voted against the Sarpanch, two voted in favour. Five votes were invalid.

Dharna: Members of the Haryana Agricultural Development Officers Association sat on a dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner office here on Saturday in support of their demands.
