AMRITSAR
Road mishap: Two persons, Dayal Singh and Gurmej Singh, were crushed to death and two others injured in a road accident near Ram Talai on G.T. Road here on Monday. The police has arrested the driver of the car. In another case, the police has arrested Surjit Singh of Bhulath village in Kapurthala and recovered seven stolen car stereos from his possession.

FEROZEPORE
Two officials arrested: The local Vigilance Bureau has arrested Sham Lal Raheja, Quality Inspector, FCI, and M. Ram, Junior Engineer, PSEB, for allegedly accepting a bribe, in two separate cases. They were booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

HOSHIARPUR
Road construction: The District Road Committee at its meeting held here on Monday granted sanction for the construction of the fourth phase of Ring Road to connect the Hoshiarpur-Una road with the Hoshiarpur-Bharwain road around the city, according to Mr Raghubir Singh, Transport Minister, Punjab, and Chairman of the committee.

Advisory board: The Punjab Government has constituted an Anti-Dowry Advisory Board for this district. The Deputy Commissioner has been nominated Chairman of the board.

LUDHIANA
Protest: Activists of the local unit of the Congress held a protest rally and burnt the effigy of the Chief Minister, Mr Parkash Singh Badal, on Monday in protest against the rising prices of essential commodities and the "anti-people policies" of the Akali-BJP government.

MANSA
Clash: A clash between two parties was reported here on Sunday. The police has registered a case against them.

Camp: As many as 189 persons were checked in a free heart check-up camp organised by the Kiwanis Club at Mauran Wali Dharamshala on Sunday.

MOGA
Donated: Mr Baljit Singh Brar, an NRI, and his brother, Mr Mangal Singh, President Service Cooperative Society, on Monday donated Rs 60,000 to the Veterinary Hospital, Baghapurana, for the construction of its building.

PATIALA
Free eye camp: As many as 250 patients were examined and 32 cataract operations performed by a team of doctors from Patiala Eye Hospital in a week-long eye operation camp which concluded at Karhali on Monday. The camp was organised by the local Lions Club (Citizen).

NSS Camp: A ten-day NSS camp organised by Government Kirti College, Nihal Patran, concluded at Nihal village on Sunday. As many as 75 volunteers took part in the camp which was inaugurated by Mr Kuldeep Singh, SDM, Samana.

Installed: Mr Prabhjot Singh has been installed President of the Patiala Ex-Services Club here, according to a press release of the club here on Monday. top

Explanation: The headline of the story, “Wrong CT Scan invites penalty” carried in these columns on December 27 is on account of an ultra scan and not a CT scan. During his deposition in the case, Dr N.S. Sandhu, stated: “There could be 2 per cent to 3 per cent error, and because there was inflammation of the gall bladder the operation was considered better in the interest of the patient.”

BHIWANI
Ex-minister's car stolen: A car belonging to Mr Dharam Vir, a former Haryana minister, was stolen from Kamla Bhavan here on Sunday. He had gone there to attend a wedding ceremony. The police has registered a case.

Charge taken: Mr Ramesh Kashyap, Chairman, Board of School Education, Haryana, took over the charge on December 24.

HISAR
Suicide: Mr Harmesh Kumar, a warden in the local Borstal jail, allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle on the jail premises on Sunday. He was on duty at the time of the incident. His body has been sent for post-mortem.

Two injured: An Assistant Sub-Inspector and a constable were injured when a group on women allegedly attacked them in Puthi Mangal Khan village in Hansi subsivision on Sunday. According to police sources, a police party had gone to arrest three persons in connection with the case of theft. Later, the police arrested a woman, Darshna.

KAITHAL
Bar association: the following have been elected office-bearers of the District Bar Association: President — Mr Kavi Raj Sharma; Secretary — Mr Shamsher Singh Kundu; Vice-President — Mr Mulakh Raj Miglani; and Joint Secretary — Mr Gurmail Singh.

KURUKSHETRA
Demonstration: Members of the district unit of the Krishak Khet Majdoor Sangthan held a demonstration in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office here on Monday in protest against faulty preparation of yellow ration cards. They submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the Deputy Commissioner and demanded that a new list should be prepared.

ROHTAK
Discrimination: Nearly 50,000 arts teachers in the state are sore over the alleged discrimination against them by the government. Mr Daya Singh Saini,district President of the Haryana Rajkiya Kala Adhyapak Sangh, said the Government had benefited Hindi and Punjabi teachers by giving them better scale but arts teachers had been ignored.

Vehicles recovered: The city police has nabbed two local gangs of vehicle thieves and recovered nine scooters, six motor cycles and a Maruti car, Mr Dinkar Gupta, SSP, said here on Monday.

SONEPAT
Nominated: The Haryana Vikas Party has nominated Mrs Sunita Kumari a resident of Mehndipur village, as General Secretary of the district unit of the party, according to a press release issued by the party.

KANGRA
Ten arrested: The police arrested 10 persons and destroyed five working stills and seized 78,250 ml of illicit liquor from their possession. Mr Kapil Sharma, ASP, said the police had intensified the drive against anti-social elements in the district.

SHIMLA
Seized: Forest officials of this division have intercepted a truck carrying illicit timber. As many as 61 deodar sleepers worth Rs 1.80 lakh were seized from the vehicle.
