gas quota
NEW DELHI,
Dec 14 (PTI) The Kerala High Court has vacated the
stay on out-of-turn allotment of gas and telephone
connections by MPs but has laid down certain conditions
for the purpose, the Lok Sabha was informed today.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Madan Lal Khurana said the
beneficiary should be residing in the constituency of the
MP and the gas/phone connection should be for domestic
use. The beneficiary should also be registered with the
authority concerned. 19 die in mishap
ALMORA, Dec
14 (PTI) At least 19 persons, including five women
and two children, were killed and 41 injured when a bus
fell into a gorge in Pithoragarh district of Uttar
Pradesh today, officials said. The private bus was on its
way from Pithoragarh to Bageshwar when it met with the
accident near Dooni village in Gangolihat area of the
district.
INS Ganga
MUMBAI, Dec
14 (PTI) The Indian Navy's guided missile frigate
"INS Ganga" will be formally
"affiliated" to the Jammu and Kashmir Light
Infantry Regiment (JAK LI) here tomorrow. The affiliation
between Navy ships and Army regiments was instituted in
1990 when the guided missile destroyer, "INS
Rajput", was affiliated to the Rajput Regiment,
naval sources said today.
Train blast
SILIGURI, Dec
14 (PTI) One person was seriously injured when a
bomb exploded on the buffer between two compartments of
the Guwahati-bound 4645 up Dadar Express at the
Kishanganj railway station today. The additional
Divisional Railway Manager, Katihar, Mr Girish Kumar,
said the bomb exploded at around 11.00 a.m.
Benazir Bhutto
ISLAMABAD,
Dec 14 (PTI) The Supreme Court of Pakistan today
ordered the shifting of corruption cases against former
Premier Benazir Bhutto and her spouse Asif Zardari from
Lahore to Rawalpindi and maintained that the courts
hearing these cases were part of high court and not
special courts. The three-member Bench gave its judgement
on separate petitions filed by both Benazir and Zardari
to transfer their cases from Lahore.
Congress dharna
PATNA, Dec 14
(PTI) Congressmen in Bihar, led by PCC President
Sadanand Singh, today staged a dharna here in protest
against the alleged failure of the Rabri Devi Ministry on
all fronts, including failure in controlling the
spiralling prices of essential commodities. He said the
dharna was held in protest against "criminalisation,
corruption and casteism unleashed by the ruling
party".
Mine explosion
HONG KONG,
Dec 14 (ANI) Thirtytwo persons were killed and 10
others injured in a mine explosion in China's Zheijiang
province over the weekend. Delayed reports reaching here
today from Beijing quoted an official of the Changguang
mine as saying that the explosion was sparked off by a
short-circuit.
