Dy Speaker: AIADMK opposes BJP nominee
NEW DELHI, Dec 9 — Chances of the BJP to install a Deputy Speaker of its choice in the 12th Lok Sabha today suffered a severe setback with the AIADMK wanting that the post go to the Opposition. Close on the heels of open support by the TMC to the joint opposition nominee, Mr P.M. Sayeed, the AIADMK Secretary, Ms J Jayalalitha, said in Chennai today that the Deputy Speaker's post should go to the Opposition.

NEW DELHI, Dec 9 — The Delhi High Court has restrained Dawood Ibrahim’s alleged frontman, Romesh Sharma, from parting with, alienating, transferring and conveying his palatial Mayfair Gardens House and land to a third party following a suit by a person claiming title over it.

Truck rams into Shatabdi Express
CHANDIGARH, Dec 9 — A minor accident involving the Delhi-Chandigarh Shatabdi near Saharanpur this morning delayed passengers travelling from Delhi. Though no one was injured in the accident the normally three hour journey between Delhi and Chandigarh on the Shatabdi Express took an unprecedented 14 hours today. A fully loaded truck had rammed into the train at a level crossing.

CHANDIGARH, Dec 9 — Cracks in the rail track may have been one of the major reasons for the gruesome rail tragedy in which more than 200 persons lost their lives near Khanna 13 days ago.

53 die in bus-tanker collision
JAGDISHPUR (Bihar), Dec 9 — At least 53 persons were killed in one of the worst road accidents today when an overcrowded bus collided head-on with an oil tanker, about five km from here, on the national highway in Bhojpur district of Bihar.

4 SC judges sworn in
New Delhi, Dec 9 — Four judges to the Supreme Court were today administered oath of office by Chief Justice of India A. S. Anand, taking the total number judges in the apex court to 22 as against the sanctioned strength of 26. Mr Justice Manoharlal Bhikalal Shah, Mr Justice Deba Priya Mohapatra, Mr Justice Umesh Chandra Banerjee and Mr Justice Ramesh Chandra Lahoti took oath in the Chief Justice’s court in a 15-minute ceremony attended by all 18 sitting judges.
