ABOHAR

Injured: All 10 occupants of a jeep were injured, two of them seriously, when it collided with a truck near Gadarkhera village on the Abohar-Hanumangarh road on Sunday. According to police sources, the jeep was on its way from Abohar to Tibbi.
Arrested: The Railway police has arrested two youths, Rakesh and Shreeram, as they were searching the luggage of Kuldip Singh of Moga at the railway platform. Both culprits have been remanded in police custody for two days.

FATEHGARH SAHIB

Camp: The Lions Club, Mandi Gobindgarh, organised a free heart check-up camp at Mandi Gobindgarh on Monday. More than 200 patients were examined and medicines were given to patients free of cost.

FARIDKOT

Charge taken: Mr R.N. Gupta took over the charge of Commissioner of the Faridkot division on Monday in addition to the charge of Commissioner, Ferozepore division.

HOSHIARPUR

Watershed scheme: The Soil Conservation Department has selected Talwara block of the district under the national watershed scheme. This was stated by the Deputy Commissioner, Mr Iqbal Singh Sidhu.

MOGA

Three dead: Three persons were killed in accidents around Moga on Sunday. According to reports, two persons travelling in a Maruti car were killed when their car collided with a truck near Ajitwal village, 15 km from here. In another accident, a person was killed when his scooter collided with another vehicle on the Moga-Fazilka road. A case has been registered.

SAMRALA

Elected: Mr Surinder Kundra, a counsellor of Machhiwara, has been elected for the fourth time as Vice-President of the nagar council, Machhiwara, according to the SDM, Mr Sanjay Popli.
Senior citizens: Members of the Senior Citizens Association at a meeting held here on Sunday condemned the indifferent attitude of the local municipal committee for not repairing the roads, especially the Machhiwara and Chaqa roads.

Dharna: Members of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation Public Health Workers Union held a dharna here on Monday against the anti-working class policies of the BJP Government. Speakers urged the civic body staff to make the December 12 dharna, the call for which had been given by the joint action committee of the MC and UT employees, a success.
SAD condemnation: The local unit of the SAD has condemned the manner in which the Bajrang Dal took out procession on Sunday allegedly aimed at outraging the feelings of a particular community. A press note, issued here on Monday condemned the "partisan" attitude of the police for not booking the dal workers by name. The SAD urged the police to take strict action against the culprit so that such incidents were not repeated.
Gesture: Sixtyfive NSS volunteers of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 20-D, went door to door in various areas of Sector 20 with employees of Govt Civil Dispensary, Sector 20, on the occasion of the pulse polio immunisation programme on Sunday. They also helped the medical staff at various venues in the sector where polio drops were being administered. The school's NCC and NSS units will also render help during the second phase of the pulse polio programme on January 17 next year.

Blankets distributed:The Vyakti Vikas Kendra, Chandigarh, a non-government organisation, recently distributed 200 woollen blankets among poor and needy persons here and in Chandigarh. The blankets were distributed as part of welfare project started by the kendra.

Treatment decried: A Municipal Councillor and a former President of the civic body, Mr Sukhjit Singh Sukhi, has condemned the treatment meted out by the local authorities to singer Daler Mehndi. Mr Sukhjit Singh said here on Sunday that octroi should not have been charged on musical instruments being brought for the Mehndi show. This amounted to "discrimination" against a Punjabi artiste as no such levy was imposed when actor Salman Khan and Karishma Kapoor presented their show at the PCA Stadium recently.top

AMBALA

Bhog: The bhog of the akhand path held in memory of those killed in the railway accident near Khanna recently was performed here on Sunday at Gurdwara Singh Sabha in old Railway Colony of the cantonment. The akhand path had started on December 4 and was organised by the families of railway employees here.
Rally: A cycle expedition by 10 students and three teachers of Chail Military School was flagged off at the cantonment by Brig Satnam Singh, Commander, HQ, Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh (1), sub-area, here on Sunday. The expedition would go to Dehra Dun via Hardwar and Rishikesh. Brigadier Satnam Singh said the expedition was aimed at promoting national integration and motivating youths to join the armed forces.

GURGAON

Telephone connection: The Telecom Department has not installed a telephone at Fazalpur village in violation of the order of the local consumer court. Mr Birender Singh had applied for a telephone connection in July, 1992. Even after five years, the department has not given him the connection on the plea that there was a heavy load on the exchange.

ROHTAK

Vehicle stolen: Some persons stole a Tata Sumo vehicle from a locality in Jhajjar town on Saturday. The vehicle was parked near the site of a marriage function being held in the town. A case has been registered.

SONEPAT

Car taken away: Three armed youths took away a Maruti car from Umed Singh at gunpoint at Ganaur, subdivisional town in the district, 16 km from here, on Monday. According to reports, Umed Singh came out of his house around 9 a.m and went to his car parked outside. The culprits, who were already there, snatched the keys from him and drove away the car towards Garhi Jhinjhara village.

SIRSA

Theft: A group of thieves reportedly entered the house of Mr Nanak Singh at the local Kirti Nagar on Friday and decamped with some cash, ornaments and other valuable articles when the owner and his family had gone out of station. The theft came to light when the owner returned on Sunday.
Telephone connection: Resentment prevails among residents of Jiwan Nagar and its adjoining areas in the district against the Telecom Department as a large number of telephones in this village have been out of order for the past several days. Residents alleged that defective bills were also being supplied to consumers of this village.

Seized: The Kangra police on Monday seized 84 bottles of liquor from a van at Jawali and arrested six persons who were travelling in the van. The vehicle has been impounded.top
