Elected: Dr Harminder Singh Sekhon and Dr Ranbir Kumar Sharma, have been elected President and General Secretary, respectively, of the district unit of the Punjab State Veterinary Officers Association.

LUDHIANA

Scientist honoured: Dr A.S. Bansal, Professor of Mechanical Engineering, PAU, has been honoured with a national award for outstanding research work in engineering and technology for the year 1997 at the annual convention of the Indian Society for Technical Education held recently.

PATIALA

Camp: Shri Yog Vedant Seva Samiti organised a dhyan yog camp here in SD Senior Secondary School in which as many as 450 students participated. The samiti also decided to hold such camps in other schools of the city in the future, according to a press release of the samiti here on Wednesday.
Skin disease camp: The local Rotaract Club (Central) organised a free skin disease and gynae check-up camp with the collaboration of the Oriental Bank of Commerce here recently in which 450 patients were examined by Dr Jatinder Sidana and Dr (Mrs) Phool Chandra.
Karamchari dal: The Punjab State Karamchari Dal held a meeting here and discussed its demands. In a statement issued here on Wednesday, Mr Kulbir Singh Sidhkheri, General Secretary of the dal, said the dal would support the proposed dharna by FCI employees at Delhi on December 9.
Nominated: Prof P.K. Chatopadhyaya, Department of Forensic Science, Punjabi University, has been nominated Vice-President of the International Medico-Legal Society at a conference held at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. Dr D.S. Bhullar, medico-legalist from the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, Government Rajindra Hospital, Patiala, has been nominated an executive member of the society.

BHIWANI

Honoured: A former Chief Minister of Haryana, Mr Banarsi Das Gupta, has been presented with 'Agrakul Ratna' by the local Aggarwal Sabha, for his services to the community. The sabha also honoured an industrialist, Mr D.S. Aggarwal, a social worker, Mr Nand Kishore Jalan, and a number of teachers, doctors, students, and sportsmen.
Recruitment rally: A five-day Army recruitment rally for the candidates belonging to Bhiwani, Rewari and Mahendergarh districts will be held from December 18 at Ambala cantonment. The Recruitment Officer, Lt Col Ajay A.Oka, Charkhi Dadri, said here on Thursday that youths would be recruited for general duty and technical trades.
Loyalty shift: Mr Hanuman Prasad, President, District Beopar Mandal, along with his followers have announced to join the newly emerged the Sarvjatiya Morcha of Mr O.P. Jindal.

Blood donation: More than 100 NSS volunteers of the local Day Centenary College donated blood at a camp organised here on Tuesday, according to Mr P.D. Nanda, Principal of the college.
Power theft: The Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam has detected 615 cases of power theft in the district during last month. A spokesman of the nigam said here on Wednesday that a penalty of Rs 1.04 crore was imposed on defaulters. The police has registered cases under the Electricity Act and arrested 27 persons.

Pulse polio programme: The district administration and the Health Department authorities have completed arrangements for giving polio drops to children under the pulse polio immunisation programme scheduled for December 6 and January 17. Stating this here on Wednesday, Mr Tarun Bajaj, Deputy Commissioner, said as many as 1.66 lakh children up to the age of five years would be given polio drops in the district.
Inaugurated: Mr Tarun Bajaj, Deputy Commissioner, on Tuesday inaugurated the crushing operations of Jind Cooperative Sugarmill. Mr Bajaj said the mill had earned a record profit of Rs 2.11 crore last year.

Arrested: The police has arrested Ishwar Singh on the charge of murdering Babu Ram, a chaukidar, of Sirsal, last week. The accused surrendered before the Pundri police and admitted that he had committed the crime.
Women held: The police on Tuesday arrested four women from the local bus stand and recovered poppy husk from them. They have been booked under the NDPS Act.

Injured: Kartari Devi (30), was injured when she was allegedly attacked by her brother-in-law at her house in Panihari village on Tuesday. She was taken to the Civil Hospital.
Case registered: Sunita of this town along with onother person were arrested by the police here on Tuesday and a criminal case under Section 109, Cr PC, has been registered against them.
Office-bearers: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Yuvak Sahitya Sadan: President — Mr Sita Ram Bagla; Secretary — Mr Kamlesh Bishnoi; Joint Secretary — Mr Bansi Dhar; and Treasurer — Mr Durga Dutt.
Two arrested: A police party headed by Mr Singhara Singh, a CIA Inspector, arrested Ramesh Kumar, alias Raj Kumar, and Dinesh Kumar, alias Bintu, of Kirti Nagar here on Tuesday and recovered stolen goods from them, Mr B.S. Sandhu, SP, said on Wednesday.
Lok Adalat: As many as 418 of the 456 cases were settled at a district-level Lok Adalat held at the local judicial complex here on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Mr S.D. Anand, Additional District and Sessions Judge. As many as eight motor accident claims were decided and compensations worth Rs 6.41 lakh was awarded.
Fire: Fire gutted a cotton factory here on Wednesday. Fire engines extinguished the fire. The cause of fire was not known.

SONEPAT

Power theft cases: Officers of the Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam have detected 248 cases of power theft in Sonepat circle last month, Mr P.K. Mahapatra, Deputy-Commissioner, said here on Wednesday. He said a penalty of Rs 33.32 lakh was imposed on defaulters and the police has registered cases against them.
Killed: Rajesh, a tea seller, was killed in a clash between two groups at Jagsi village in Gohana subdivision on Tuesday. The police has registered a case against the alleged assailants.

YAMUNANAGAR

Road repairs: A sum of Rs 4 crore will be spent on the repair of roads in the district during the current financial year, the Deputy Commissioner, Mr Rajiv Sharma, said on Wednesday.top

Body found: Body of Tara Chand (24), a resident of Benchi village, was found on the Kanyal road near Simsa village, about 2 km from here, on Wednesday. According to the police, the body had been sent to District Hospital, Kulu, for a post-mortem examination.top
