BATHINDA

Wage revision
The Faridkot-Bathinda Gramin Bank Staff Association has urged the bank management to implement the sixth bipartite wage settlement and officers' wage revision. In a memorandum submitted to the chairman of the bank on Saturday, it demanded that employees be given facilities like pension, gratuity and provident fund.

Lok commission
Mr Karnail Singh Panjoli, general secretary of the youth wing of the SAD, has supported the formation of the Lok Commission by the World Sikh Council and human rights organisations. In a press note issued here on Saturday, he said such a body was needed to expose excesses committed by any agency and to give an opportunity to sufferers to represent their cases to get justice.

Camp
A medical camp was organised by the local Rotary Club at Janta National College complex here recently. Nearly 200 patients were examined of which 43 were found to be suffering from TB. These patients have been adopted by the club for further treatment.

MOGA

Action sought
Ms Manjeet Kaur, newly elected sarpanch of Alamwala Kalan village in a complaint lodged with the police on Saturday sought action against certain persons who had tied her husband to a tree in the village and beat him up.
Transfer sought

A meeting of the PCMS Association held here on Friday sought the transfer of the doctors of the local Civil Hospital to avoid any hindrance into the probe of the death of Banwari Lal, a doctor, who had died a few days ago.
Missing

Dalip Singh of Gholian Kalan village in a complaint lodged with the police, said her wife along with their two children boarded a bus for Dabwali but did not reach her destination. She had also made a telephone call in which she alleged that she had been abducted by certain persons but could not tell anything else as the phone got disconnected.

Conference
The third all-India party conference of the Marxist Communist Party of India (MCPI) will be held from September 10 to 30 at Gujjar Bhavan in Chandigarh, in which more than 200 delegates are expected to participate. This was stated here on Saturday by Mr Prem Singh Bhangu, member of the central committee of the MCPI and Mr Prem Singh Nanwa, district secretary. They said a mass rally would be held on September 10, at Sector 20, Chandigarh.
PSEB women

Mrs Harjit Kaur Ahluwalia, general secretary of the Punjab State Electricity Board Women's Welfare Association, in a press note on Sunday expressed solidarity with the Punjab school teachers whose services were terminated by the state government recently. Saying that injustice had been done to them, the association backed the teachers' demand for reinstatement of their jobs.

Inner Wheel Club

Protest
Activists of the All-India Anti -Corruption Forum held a protest March here on Saturday evening. They staged a demonstration in front of sadar police station and blocked traffic to express resentment against the police failure to arrest those responsible for attacking and injuring the national president of the forum, Mr P. S. Passi. The protesters threatened to give a call for a bandh if the guilty were not arrested at the earliest. A memorandum was also presented to the local authorities.

Electrocuted
Surjit Singh (37), a resident of Musse village, was electrocuted on Saturday in his village when he stepped on a live wire in the paddy fields. The Chabal police has registered a case and the body has been sent for post-mortem.
Theft by women
Two women looted Rs 9,500, three gold rings and other articles from Mrs Lakhwinder Kaur in Naurangabad village on Friday. The sadar police has registered a case. top

FATEHABAD

Seized
The police has arrested five persons and seized 135 kg of poppy husk at four places in the district according to the district police chief, Mr Rajbir Deswal. The police has registered cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (prevention) Act.
Quiz
A quiz contest was held at the local Dayaram Public School on Saturday. The contest comprised various rounds including audio, video, observation etc. The Krishna team came first and the Yamuna team came second.

GURGAON

Inspection
The state Finance Minister, Mr Charan Dass Shorewala, and the Chief Secretary, Mr R.S. Verma, inspected the district jail on Saturday. Their visit was prompted by reports of frequent skirmishes among the prisoners. They were accompanied by the Home Secretary, Mr K.G. Verma, and local officials, including the DC, the DIG, the SSP and the SDM. The officials also discussed a proposal to acquire 85 acres of land at Bhondsi for the construction of a new prison.

JIND

Arrested
The police on Friday arrested Mr A.C. Gupta, an Executive Engineer of the Irrigation Department at Safidon, for allegedly taking bribe. According to the Deputy Commissioner, Mr Tarun Bajaj, the accused had demanded a bribe for releasing payment to a construction company. A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered.

Body found
The body of a newborn baby girl was recovered from a pit near the railway line adjoining the boundary wall of the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) here on Friday. According to sources the body was thrown in the pit early in the morning.
Killed
Sant Ram was killed and Baldev Singh was injured when a vehicle hit them while they were walking on the road near Bahu Akbarpur village on National Highway-10, 15 km from here, on Friday. A case has been registered.

Blood donation camp
Mr Mahavir Prasad, Governor of Haryana, inaugurated a blood donation camp organised by the District Red Cross Society and Nehru Yuvak Kendra at Panchayat Bhavan here on Sunday.
Electrocuted
Suresh Kumar (25), a lineman of the Telecommunication Department, was electrocuted at Jamal village in the district on Saturday. According to sources, he was injured when he accidentally came in contact with an electric wire while closing the door of his house. He died on the way to the hospital.
Lok adalat
A district-level lok adalat was organised at the local Court Complex on Saturday in which judicial officers, doctors, social workers and members of the Bar Association participated. About 638 cases out of 861 were disposed of at the adalat.

YAMUNANAGAR

Three dead
Three women reportedly died in various incidents here in the past two days. Baljit Kaur (18) was burnt when she was cooking food. She was taken to the PGI, Chandigarh, where she died on Friday. In another incident, Seema, a local resident, died of burn injuries at the PGI, Chandigarh. One woman was crushed to death when she was crossing a railway line near Mustfabad in the district. top

BILASPUR

Seized
A police party here intercepted two trucks carrying apple boxes on Friday and seized 114 deodar sleepers which were allegedly being smuggled out of the state. The SP said the drivers had no permit or licence and were carrying fake papers of the trucks. A case was registered under Sections 379, 420 and 120-B, IPC, and Sections 41 and 42 of the Indian Forests Act.
Leaders join HVC
As many as 12 Congress leaders and some BJP leaders have deserted their respective parties along with their supporters and joined the Himachal Vikas Congress led by Mr Sukh Ram. The president of district unit of HVC, Major Shivram Sharma, said these leaders joined the HVC at a party meeting held at Barthin on Friday.

Nagar panchayat
Mrs Nimmo Devi of the Congress was elected new president of the Sujanpur Tira nagar panchayat on Saturday. She defeated Mr Tilak Raj by one vote.
Top position

Hamirpur district got the first position in the state in the implementation of the 20-Point Programme in the last financial year. This was stated by the Deputy Commissioner here on Saturday. He said the district had achieved success in various programmes like the supply of drinking water, Jawahar Rojgar Yojna, improvement of slums and setting up of biogas plants.

KASAULI

Harassment
The District Congress Committee in a press statement here on Sunday, criticised the BJP government for "harassing" businessmen loyal to the Congress. It alleged that the government by adopting the pick-and-choose policy was harassing these businessmen.

NAHAN

Hospital
The Ayurvedic Hospital building being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 2 crore will be completed soon. This was stated by the Deputy Commissioner on Saturday.
Deputation
A deputation of members of social, political and cultural organisations from Nahan, Dadahu and Renuka met the Deputy Commissioner here on Saturday and requested him to convey their resentment to the state government over the shifting of the investigation division of the HPSEB from Renuka to the Larji project. They demanded the cancellation of the order. A silent procession was also taken out by the youth, in protest against the order, in Dadahu.

SHIMLA

Renovated
Lt-Gen Vijay Oberoi, GOC-in-C, Army Training Command and president of the Shimla Amateur Dramatic Club, dedicated a renovated tavern to the members of the club at a special function. The management of the club had taken up the task of the restoration of the Gaiety Theatre on a war-footing.

Ghazal evening
A sham-e-ghazal was organised by the Youngers Club, here on Saturday. Ghazal singers from various parts of Solan and Shimla district participated. The Punjab Transport Minister, Mr Raghbir Singh, presided over the function.
Teachers' stir
Members of the university of Horticulture and Forestry Teachers' Association took out a procession and sat on a dharna in front of the Vice- Chancellor's office on Saturday, the 11th day of their indefinite strike. Association members would join teachers of the Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Palampur, Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla and Himachal government colleges at a rally to be organised at Shimla on September 1.
Sentenced
Chief Judicial Magistrate Prem Pal Ranta on Saturday sentenced five persons to six months’ imprisonment and fined Rs 500 each in a timber theft-cum-smuggling case. The convicts were booked under Section 379, IPC, and Sections 41 and 42 of the Indian Forest Act.

SUNDERNAGAR

Convicted
Gurdeet Singh of Kanaid village of Sundernagar subdivision was sentenced to three years’ rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 1000 under Section 307, IPC, by the Sessions Judge, Mandi division, on Friday for allegedly outraging the modesty and for attempting to kill a woman. He will also undergo imprisonment for six months and pay a fine of Rs 500, under Section 354, IPC.top
