Judges' case: SC summons records
NEW DELHI, Aug 25 — The nine-judge Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court, adjudicating vital questions raised by the President on the appointment of judges to the apex court and high courts, today directed the Union government to submit in sealed cover all confidential records on such appointments.

CHUHAR CHAK (Moga), Aug 25 — Chief Minister of Punjab Parkash Singh Badal today formally launched the government scheme for the introduction of English language as a subject in government primary schools in the state.

AMRITSAR, Aug 25 — Differences among three jathedars have reached a point of no return as the Akal Takht Chief, Bhai Ranjit Singh, has categorically announced that he will not allow Prof Manjit Singh, Jathedar, Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib and Giani Kewal Singh, Jathedar, Takht Sri Damdama Sahib, to participate in the meetings of Sikh clergy till Prof Manjit Singh submits details of accounts of the World Sikh Council.

Rs 35 hike in wheat price recommended
CHANDIGARH, Aug 25 — The Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices is understood to have recommended an increase of Rs 35 per quintal in the minimum support price of wheat for the 1998-99 crop over last year’s recommended price of Rs 455 per quintal.
