Elected
The following have been elected office-bearers of the Employees Federation of Engineering Colleges, Punjab: president — Mr Om Parkash Sharma; vice-presidents — Mr Nachhatar Singh and Mr Balram; general secretary — Mr R.K. Bhardwaj; and organising secretary — Mr Hemant Thapar.
Blood donation camp
As many as 50 persons donated blood at a camp organised jointly by the local Lions Club (Quila Mubarak), the State Bank of Patiala (service branch) and SDSE Senior Secondary School on the school premises on Sunday. Mr B.S. Rattan, Additional Commissioner, Income Tax, and Mr N.C. Sharma, DGM, State Bank of Patiala, were the chief guests.
Student association
The following have been elected office-bearers of the Old Students Association of Government Mohindra College here: patron — Prof Parminder Singh Sidhu; president — Dr Joginder Singh; senior vice-president — Maj. Dharna
A dharna by employees of the district unit of the Punjab State Tubewell Corporation in front of the office of the Superintending Engineer construction circle, entered its 13th day on Monday. The employees are protesting against the shifting of the Sunam lining division office and the Sangrur circle office to Faridkot.top

Saplings planted
As many as 100 saplings were planted during a tree plantation drive function organised by the State Bank of India Staff Association at DAV Centenary Public School in Sector 7 here on Monday. The deputy general secretary of the association, Mr Sanjiv Bandlish planted a sapling in the school premises. Later 50 saplings were also planted at the Sector 26 Institute for the Blind.
Book released
A collection of poems by Mrs Harbir K. Anand titled "Quest" was released by Neelam Man Singh Chaudhary, chairperson of the Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademi, here on Monday, a press note said.
Tribune employee bereaved
A teenaged son of Mr Lok Pal, senior operator, Dainik Tribune, succumbed to his injuries at Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, this evening.The deceased, Kishori Lal (14), who had come to meet his father from Mandi, was injured when a CRPF truck allegedly hit his cycle.

Medical camp
The Lions Club of Panchkula Central Chandigarh organised a medical camp at Shri Ram Mandir in Sector 2 here on Sunday. As many as 300 persons were examined.
FPAI camp
The local branch of the Family Planning Association of India (FPAI) organised a family planning operation camp in collaboration with the Inner Wheel Club of Chandigarh in Sector 4 here today.

Check-up camp
The local Rotary Club (Main) organised a medical camp at Mother Teresa International Convent School here on Monday. About 250 patients were examined. Medicines free of cost were also provided to the them.

Car taken away
Three persons allegedly took away a Zen car at gunpoint from Mr Madan Lal Gulati of Sector 14 near South City here. An FIR has been lodged.
Bodies found
The body of Manju Nanda, a student of Grace Bible College, Daya Vihar here, has been found on the college premises. The body of another girl has been found in the hills of Gawalpahari village. A case has been registered.
Spurious drinks
Various social and political organisations here have complained to the health authorities about spurious soft drinks being sold by a local company. They alleged that some bottles even had insects and suspended particles in them.

Stabbed
Subhash Saini of Dhanibarwali village was allegedly stabbed to death and his body thrown into a water tank, here on Sunday. A case under Section 302 of the IPC has been registered.

Burn injuries
Savitri Devi of Regar Basti, Mandi Dabwali, received burn injuries when her clothes caught fire while preparing tea on Sunday.
Channel repair
Resentment prevails among farmers of Nanuwana village in the district against officials of the Irrigation Department for their failure to repair the Nanuwana irrigation channel which has caused heavy losses to crops after a breach occurred in it on Friday.
Agitation
More than 200 employees of the CDPO Badaduha block in the district have decided to start an agitation for not being given salaries for the past three months.

Probe urged
The local Consumer Welfare Association on Sunday urged the Haryana Government to order a high-level probe into the illegal transportation of bricks to Delhi by certain brick-kiln owners in connivance with officials of the Food and Supplies Department.
Protest
The local Citizens Council on Sunday protested against the activities of gamblers and urged the Superintendent of Police to take steps to curb them.
Dharna
The district unit of the Congress Seva Dal has decided to stage a dharna on September 10 in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner in protest against the power and water crises, bad condition of roads and deteriorating law and order condition in the district.top

Sapling plantation
Irrigation and Public Health Minister Ramesh Choudhary on Monday urged people to actively take part in sapling plantation in their areas. He was speaking at a vanamahotsava organised at Dhanot village near here.

KASAULI

Campaign
State Bank of Patiala, the cantonment board, NSS volunteers and district BJP workers planted 1000 saplings in the cantonment area on Sunday as part of a plantation campaign.

Jubilee celebration
The week-long golden jubilee celebrations of the local Sahitya Sadan concluded at Gandhi Bhavan on Sunday. The highlights of the celebrations were a kavi sammelan, a sahitya goshthi and a sangeet sammelan.

Block samiti
Twenty members of the local block samiti at a meeting on Saturday expressed resentment against the bureaucracy here for ignoring their democratically elected body. The members alleged that the authorities concerned had not even conveyed the proceedings of the last four meetings to the members and the departments concerned for appropriate action.

PWD functioning
Maj. Vijay Singh Mankotia, a former minister and senior Congress leader, has urged Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal to order a high-level inquiry into the functioning of the Public Works Department, Kangra district. He alleged that government funds worth crores were being misutilised by the PWD authorities in violation of the rules. top
