JAIPUR, Aug 23 — The three-day national executive committee meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party today ended with an appeal to its government to take "appropriate action" to save Bihar "before it slips over the edge".

Sharif under fire for 'helping' USA
ISLAMABAD, Aug 23 — The Pakistan Government today came under mounting criticism from various quarters in the country for allegedly assisting the USA to launch missile attacks on Afghanistan, but the Prime Minister, Mr Nawaz Sharif, termed the charges as "false and baseless".

More bodies airlifted
from Malpa

LUCKNOW, Aug 23 — Nine more bodies were airlifted from the landslide-hit Malpa region and brought to Dharchula in Pithoragarh district while search and rescue operations continued amid intermittent rainfall today.

Land prices crash in
Udham Singh Nagar

NANAKMATA (Udham Singh Nagar district), Aug 23 — Exodus has begun. With legislation for the creation of Uttaranchal on the anvil, Sikh farmers of this district have started selling their land and moving out. Land prices have crashed. Rupees six lakh per acre a month ago, the price has come down to Rs one lakh per acre. According to one estimate, 15 per cent of the local farmers have sold their land and moved out.
