Militant arrested
The district police has arrested a militant absconding since 1991, of the "Khalistan Commando Force," according to Mr Iqbal Singh, district police chief. He identified the arrested militant as Jagir Singh of Ramgarh village under Bholath police station.

Resentment
Veteran freedom fighter, Mr Jangir Singh Joga, expressed resentment over the fact that freedom fighters were not invited to the Independence Day function here. He said action should be taken against the authorities concerned.

KARNAL

Two killed
Rajan Mehra (20) and Mohit (22) residents of Amritsar, were killed and four others injured when their car collided with a truck on the national highway on Saturday. The injured were admitted to the local Civil Hospital.

Mr Sudesh Chand has been elected sarpanch of Surakhpur Gram Panchayat in Shahabad block and Mr Amir Singh of Bakana has been elected panch in the byelection, Returning Officer J.K. Verma said here on Saturday.

Poor sewerage
Residents of Patel Basti raised slogans in front of the residence of Mrs Bala Rani Sharma, Municipal Councillor on Friday in protest against the deteriorating sewerage system of their area. The residents warned that if the sewerage system was not improved they would launch an agitation.
Injured
Bachater Singh (50), a farmer of Jalalana in Sirsa district, was seriously injured when his son attacked him with a sharp edged weapon at his residence on Friday. He was admitted to the local Civil Hospital.

Adulterated ghee
The CIA staff has arrested Fazal-ul-Rahman, a resident of Hapur in Uttar Pradesh, for selling adulterated desi ghee here and recovered 7 kg ghee from his possession. A case under the Essential Commodities Act has been registered against him.
Brothers held
The Kharkhauda police has arrested two brothers Pappu, alias Bijender, and Surinder of Jatola village in connection with the alleged murder of Rambir of the same village on August 8, the Superintendent of Police said here on Sunday.

Seminar
A four-day seminar was held at Renuka to study the process of glacier formation and terrestrial upheaval. As many as 22 geologists participated. The convenor of the seminar, Dr A.D. Ahluwalia, Reader in the Department of Geology, Panjab University, disclosed that in the year 2000 an international conference of geologists would be held in Himachal Pradesh.

Liquor seized
The police on Friday seized 36 bottles of country made foreign liquor at the barrier. The liquor was being smuggled in a truck (HP-09-0477) to Himachal Pradesh.top
