ABOHAR Judicial custody
A former shooting champion of Punjab University,
Mr Anil Kumar Singhmar, was remanded in judicial
custody till August 25 by the Sub-Divisional
Judicial Magistrate, Mr B.S. Mangat, on
Wednesday. Mr Singhmar was arrested on August 3
for his alleged involvement in the kidnapping of
Shankar Lal of Dharampura village.

Oriental
Bank
The Oriental Bank of Commerce organised a free
medical check-up camp on Thursday at Nathupura
village which the bank has adopted. The Regional
Manager of the bank, Mr Kanwaljit Singh, told
newsmen that specialists including Professor of
Surgery, Dr A.K. Ohri, examined the patients.
Medicines were given to the villagers free of
cost.
Unemployed teachers
The district unit of Unemployed Teachers held
a demonstration in front of the District Courts
here on Thursday in protest against the lathi
charge on their activists at Chandigarh on August
7.
Function
Army School at cantonment organised an
exhibition of art and craft, science models and
computers on Thursday. On the spot painting and
poetry recitation competitons were also organised
for children. Mrs Avtar Singh, president of the
Army Wives Welfare Organisation was the chief
guest and gave away the prizes.
Medical camp
The State Bank of Patiala has organised a
medical camp at Baba Bakala. As many as 400
patients were examined and medicines were
distributed free of cost to them.

Vanamahotsava
The Maisarkhana branch of the State Bank of
Patiala organised vanamahotsava in the
Geheribarasingha village in this district on
Thursday. According to a press note issued by the
Manager of the bank, Mr S.K. Bhandari, each
student of the school of the village planted a
sapling.
HOSHIARPUR
Demonstration
Members of
the Swadeshi Jagran Manch, the Bharatiya Janata
Yuba Morcha, the Bajrang Dal Vidhyarthi Parishad
and the Mahila Wing of Swadeshi Manch held a
domonstration in the main markets of the city of
Wednesday against multinational companies. Later
they burnt goods manufactured by these companies
at Kamalpur Chowk.

plantation
To commemorate the 50th year of India's
Independence, Punjab National Bank, Ludhiana
region, organised a sapling plantation programme
on Wednesday at Jagraon in DAV Centenary Public
School. Mr V.K. Sood, Senior Regional Manager of
the bank, was the chief guest.

The district units of the Sanjha Adhiyapak
Morcha and the Nav Niyukat Adhiyapak Union held a
drarna in front of the Deputy Commissioner's
office in protest against the lathi charge on
activists of the Nav Niyukat Adhiyapak Union, at
Chandigarh.

Shobha
yatra
A shobha yatra was organised here on the
eve of Shri Krishna Janmashtami. The Punjab
Social Welfare Minister, Mr Sarwan Singh,
participated in the procession.
Blockade
Shopkeepers of Goraya held a demonstration
and blocked traffic on the national highway in
protest against the alleged misbehaviour of
Octroi staff with a general merchant on
Wednesday. The blockade was lifted after three
hours on the assurance of the SDM that proper
action would be taken.
SANGRUR
Direction
Mr Anirudh Tewari, District Magistrate, has
directed all house owners in the district to
immediately register the names of their tenants
with the nearest police station in order to check
the activities of anti-social elements believed
to be living in rented houses.
Two arrested
With the arrest of two persons, the district
police claim to have busted a gang of cycle
thieves. As many as 10 stolen cycles have been
recovered from them.
