ABOHAR

Ordered
The Sub Divisional Magistrate on Saturday directed the cinema house owners here to remove obscene film posters in the town. The warning was issued after a deputation of the women wing of the BJP met the SDM and lodged a protest against the posters.
Rally
The district Congress Committee will organise a rally at Ferozepore on August 9 in connection with Quit India Movement day. The PPCC Chief Mr Amarinder Singh will address the rally.

AMRITSAR

Plea on prices
Mrs Laxmi Kanta Chawla, MLA, has urged the Punjab and Union Governments to check the increasing prices. In a press note issued here on Saturday, Mrs Chawla said there was an urgent need to take steps to bring down the prices. She said that common use items like onions, potatoes, and tea should be supplied through the public distribution system at controlled prices.

Lok Adalat
A Lok Adalat was organised here on Saturday by the District and Sessions Judge, Patiala, Mr K.S.Grewal and the District Additional and Sessions Judge, Fatehgarh Sahib, Mr A.N. Jindal. Ten cases relating to accidents and various other matters were settled. Claims worth Rs 43.10 lakh were settled in the adalat. Five cases in the CJM court and 2 cases each in the court of H.S. Grewal and Poonam Ratti, Judicial Magistrates were settled.

KAPURTHALA

Three killed
Three persons have been killed in two different road accidents in the town in the past two days. Swaran Singh (60), and Piara Singh (55), both residents of Muktrawala in Sultanpurlodhi succumbed to their injuries sustained when their scooter collided with a four-wheeler on the Kapurthala-Sultanpurlodhi road on Friday. The police has arrested the driver of the four-wheeler and registered a case under Section 304, IPC. In another accident Mohinder Pal was killed when a roadways bus hit him on Thursday.
Exhibition
An exhibition on rail components was organised at the Rail Coach Factory here on Saturday for improving the quality of coach components. A seminar was also organised in which vendors from all over the state participated. The general manager of the factory, Mr V.P. Ojha, inaugurated the exhibition and advised the vendors to improve the quality of components supplied to the factory.

Nominated
Mr Azmat Khan, president of the local Municipal Council, has constituted subcommittees for the smooth working of the council. Mr Rakesh Sharma , Mr Mohammad Saddiq, Mr Mohammad Yakoob and Mr Mohammad Rafiq have been nominated chairman of the house tax, finance, works and sanitation subcommittees, respectively.

Arrested
The Sardulgarh police has nabbed Kulwant Singh, alias Manak and Harcharan Singh, members of an inter-state gang engaged in the smuggling of 'bhukki,' Mr Yurinder Singh Hayer , SSP said on Saturday. The police also seized 48 bags of 'bhukki,' weighing about ten quintals and the truck carrying the 'bhukki'. The police has registered a case under Sections 15, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act and under Sections 468, 471, 473, 474 and 475 of the IPC.

PATHANKOT

Tree plantation
Members of the Lions Club here planted more than 100 saplings on the premises of Shri Guru Harkrishan Public School on Friday. The club president said more saplings would be planted to make the town pollution free.

Mr Raman Trehan and Ms Beena Misra have been installed president and general secretary, respectively, of the Rotary Club (Midtown).

Body found
The body of Raj Kumar, a resident of Bishan Nagar, was found from the Patiala Nadi on the Rajpura road on Friday. The body has been sent for a medical examination.
Injured
Four persons were injured in a fight in Corgiwala village on Friday. The sadar police station SHO, Mr Ashish Kapoor, said a case under Sections 324, 323 had been registered against Mr Gurmail Singh, Gurvinder Singh, Satinder Singh and Rinku for inflicting injuries on each other. The injured had been admitted to Rajindra Hospital.

Selected
The president of the Indian Dental Association, Punjab, Dr Vijay Goyal, has been selected for the award of fellowship of "Pierre Fauchard Academy",. It will be presented to him at the 12th annual convocation to be held at Rajpura on September 12.

Protest
The Lok Sangharsh Committee on Saturday took out a procession and held a rally against the rise in prices of essential commodities , bus fares and electricity. Mr Bharpur Singh, convener of the committee, submitted a memorandum to government , through Mr Sanjay Popli, SDM, to check the rising prices.
Postponed
The Punjab Tourism Karamchari Dal has postponed its proposed strike from August 6 to 9, according to Mr Mangal Singh Hundal, co-convener of the dal. It has also put off the wearing of black badges. Mr Hundal said this decision had been taken after a meeting with Smt. Vini Mahajan, Managing Director of the corporation.

Conveyance allowance
The All-India Blind Employees' Association has urged the Central Government to grant a minimum of Rs 400 as conveyance allowance to the blind employees.A resolution to this effect was passed at a meeting of the association here on Sunday. FARIDABAD

Murdered
Two persons were murdered here on Friday and two bodies were recovered. A woman was murdered in her house in Sector 28, while her husband was away on duty. In the second case Braham Jeet (25) was murdered in a busy market in old Faridabad just a few yards away from the police station. The police also found two unidentified bodies one from near the police post in the DLF area and the other from the Yamuna belt near Ballabgarh.

KAITHAL

Woman murdered
Karnailo (32), a resident of Chaushala village, was allegedly murdered by residents of the same village on Friday. A case under Sections 302, 148, 149, IPC, has been registered against Satbir, Mani Ram, Raj Pal, Krishna and Shanti.

BVP conference
A state-level conference of the Bharat Vikas Parishad was organised at the local bhavan of the Parishad in Sector 12-A here on Sunday. Representatives from 17 units of the parishad attended the meet.

Inaugurated
The Deputy Commissioner, Mrs Rajni Sekhri Sibal, inaugurated a tree plantation programme by planting a sapling on the RD Girls College campus here on Saturday. She called upon the residents to plant a sapling each to make the city green and free from pollution. A cultural programme was also organised.

SONEPAT

Drive launched
The Haryana Irrigation Department has launched a drive to check the theft of canal water in the region. According to sources, the officials of the Rai water service division have so far detected as many as 40 cases of theft and lodged cases against the persons concerned.

Held
The local police arrested Krishan, son of Mr Ramanand Jain, on the charge of exhibiting blue films in his shop on Saturday. A case has been registered against him.

YAMUNANAGAR

Case registered
Kajal, a resident of Sarojini colony, was found dead at her in-laws residence. The police has registered a case against the husband Sunil Kumar, the father-in-law Prem Nath, the mother-in-law Raj Rani and the brother-in-law Anil under Sections 302, 201 and 34 of the IPC.top

Career guidance
A computer career guidance workshop was organised by the local Rotary Club at DAV College on Saturday. Mr S.K. Sharma, Principal , inaugurated the workshop. Prof A.K. Taneja, in charge of the computer centre gave career guidance to the students.

Protest
Women patients on Saturday protested against the non-availability of a woman doctor at the local subdivisional hospital. They demanded that the vacant post should be filled immediately.

Notification
In a notification issued on Friday the District Magistrate , Mr Rakesh Kaushal, fixed the wholesale and retail margin of profit of various commodities. The notification comes into force with immediate effect wholesale margin of profit for gram, barley, rice, and maize, would be 2 per cent and retail margin of profit would be 4 per cent. While for sugar , jaggery, paper, tea-leaves and cloth the wholesale and retail margin of profit would be 2 and 5 per cent respectively.

Tourist injured
Ahlan, an Israeli tourist, was seriously injured when his motor cycle was hit by a Maruti car, near temple road on Saturday. The police has arrested the car driver, Hardev Singh, and registered a case under Sections 279 and 337 of the IPC.
