Sabzi Mandi
The Fruit and Vegetable Merchants Union has urged the Chief Minister, Mr Parkash Singh Badal, to initiate the process of shifting the sabzi mandi to the new site by allotting shops to the existing commission agents at the reserve price, said the general secretary of the union on Friday.

Arrested
The district police has arrested Urmila for allegedly murdering her husband Kamlesh in Dera Mir Miran village on Monday. A case under Section 302, IPC, has been registered against her.

Arrested
The district police has arrested two persons of Sohal village and registered a case under the Cow Slaughter Act with Dhariwal police station.

HOSHIARPUR

Arrested
The police here has arrested a gang of thieves under its campaign against anti-social elements, according to the Senior Superintendent of Police.

Cholera cases
Three patients suffering from cholera have been admitted to a local private nursing home this month. This takes to six the number of confirmed cases of cholera treated at this nursing home during the past three months. Another five cases of gastroenteritis are under treatment at this nursing home at present.

Camp
Under the Matri Surkasha Abhiyan fortnight, the UT health department in association with the Lions Club, Chandigarh, Central organised a camp at the civil dispensary in village Hallo Majra village on Saturday. As many as 60 pregnant and lactating mothers were examined.

Tree plantation
A tree plantation camp was held at the Government Model High School, Sector 29-A. 50 medicinal saplings were planted on the occasion. A cultural programme was also organised.

Fungus in bottles
A local businessman alleged that fungus like growth was detected in cold drink bottles manufactured by a multinational company here on Saturday. Mr R.K. Bhatia, a resident of Sector 35, said he purchased six bottles of the lemon soft drink from a shop in Sector 46-C. When the first bottle was opened, he noticed suspended particles in the soft drink.

Career guidance
A five-day vocational guidance week concluded at the Divisional Employment Exchange in Ambala cantonment on Friday. Mr Hawa Singh, Dhull, Divisional Employment Officer, said that school and college students were given guidance about choice of career. A career exhibition and talks by experts were the other highlights.

Murdered
A housewife was allegedly murdered at the local Bhiwani Textile Mills Officers' Colony on Thursday. Her husband was out of town at that time. In another incident, a petrol station at Beeran village was reportedly looted on Thursday. A case has been registered.

HISAR

Ragging banned
Haryana Agricultural University has banned ragging on the campus. In the order issued here on Friday, the students were cautioned that severe disciplinary action would be taken against those who indulged in ragging.

Suicide
Meena of Sandeel village allegedly committed suicide by burning herself as she was being harassed by her in-laws for dowry. The police has registered a case against her husband Satish, mother-in-law, Ganga Devi, and brother-in-law, Pankaj, under Section 498-B of the IPC.

Cases registered
Cases under the Essential Commodities Act have been registered against seven ration depot holders in this district. The Deputy Commissioner said on Friday that various irregularities had been found in the functioning of these depots during the recent inspection done by the District Food and Supplies Department.

Elected
Ten of the 12 panches have been elected unanimously in the byelections to fill the vacant posts of panch in the district scheduled to be held on August 2, said the Deputy Commissioner here on Friday. He said four of the five villages where byelections were to be held for the posts of sarpanch had been declared sensitive.

KAITHAL

Theft
Thieves allegedly broke into a house in HUDA Colony here on Thursday and decamped with cash and jewellery. This was the fifth theft in the locality during the past one month.

KURUKSHETRA

Rates fixed
The district administration has fixed the rate of bricks and tiles at Rs 1,250 and Rs 1,300 per thousand, respectively, for government development works, according to the Deputy Commissioner. A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting attended by brick-kiln owners, office-bearers of the District Brick-Kiln Owners Association and officers of the District Food and Supplies Department.

Demonstration
The BJP Mahila Morcha held a procession here on Friday demanding immediate passing of the Women Reservation Bill. They also held a demonstration in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office and submitted a memorandum to him in this regard.

Appointed
Mr Kulbir Singh Kakkar has been appointed vice-president of the local Congress Committee, according to a press note issued by the president of the city unit of the party.

SONEPAT

Extended
The Telecom District Manager, Mr Chander Shekhar, has extended office hours of the Departmental Telegraph Office with immediate effect by two hours. According to official sources, the DTO will now function from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Timings changed
Dr R.N. Sachdeva, Civil Surgeon, has changed the timings of Civil Dispensary. According to official sources, the dispensary will now function from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Two arrested
The Rai police has arrested two persons in connection with the alleged motor cycle robbery at pistol point at Nahra village, on July 24. The police also recovered two countrymade pistols and two cartridges from their possession.

YAMUNANAGAR

Oral health
The Indian Dental Association has launched an oral health Programme throughout the country for school children in more than 100 towns in India. Dr I.K. Pandit, president of the local unit of the association, said the main objective of the programme was to raise oral health consciousness and standard among the children. top
