Amritsar: Baba Sham Singh has been re-elected as the President of the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (PSGPC). Former PSGPC president Mastan Singh said Baba Amarjit Singh had been elected as the Vice-President and Gopal Chawla General Secretary.
Trader robbed of Rs 70,000
Batala: Armed miscreants fired several shots aimed at a trader and robbed him of Rs 70,000 near Shiekupura village, falling under Sadar police station, on Saturday. The victim, Rohit Sharma, however escaped unhurt as the shots missed him. Batala SSP Inderbir Singh said, “In all probability, the accused will be arrested within the next 24 hours.”

Patiala: A special session on “Punjab economy” was held on the second day of The Indian Econometric Society Conference. Speakers said to bail itself out from economic instability, the state must encourage diversification of crops, secondary agriculture, advanced technology and enhanced research. The said state should assure marketing of alternative crops at remunerative prices and strengthening of supply chains.
DC inspects sand quarry
Jalandhar: Deputy Commissioner, Nawanshahr, Anandita Mitra on Saturday paid a surprise visit to the PSIEC-controlled sand quarry at Burj Tehal Dass. The move was aimed at "ensuring transparency and prompt delivery of services" here. She directed the PSIEC staff and the labour contractor to load trolleys on “first-come-first-serve” basis so that people get sand as per their turn.
Gurdwara fire: Probe on
Tarn Taran: Members of the special investigation team (SIT) formed to probe the alleged burning of “birs” at Guru Granth Sahib at Jodhpur village on Saturday visited the spot. The incident had taken place on December 1. The police have already registered a case against 10 followers of the Divya Jyoti Jagriti Sansthan. Three of them have been arrested.
