The cagers of the University of Jammu (JU) started their campaign in style by notching up win against Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla, in their opening encounter in the North Zone Basketball Championship at Swami Vivekananda Group of Institutes, Banur, under the aegis of Punjab Technical University, Jallandhar.
JU was leading by 23-6 in the first quarter but the opponent team played with much improved game plan in the second quarter to the reduce the lead 36-45 at breather.
However, after playing safe in the third quarter, JU Cagers got back to their offensive tactics and increased the margin of their lead to 18 points, finishing the game at 81-63.
For the winning team, Shubham Sharma and Amanjot Singh contributed with 27 and 13 points, respectively, while Rohan Kundal and Jaskirat contributed 12 and 11 points, respectively. JU will now face Allahabad University in their second round match to be played tomorrow.
