While commending the Union Government for handing out Rs 5 lakh each to the 1984 riot-affected families, MP Ravneet Singh Bittu today drew the attention of the House as well as the government towards the plight of the terrorism-affected families and sought relief for them.

In the Lok Sabha, Bittu said during the dark days of militancy, 35,000 innocent people belonging to the Hindu, Sikh, Muslim, Christian communities and police personnel lost their lives in Punjab. “It’s sad that the victims of terrorism and their families have been neglected.”

Sympathising with the innocent victims who were pulled out of the buses, trains and shot dead in cold blood, Bittu criticised the BJP for its “double talk”. "The BJP should pull out of the state government if it is serious about its statements on nationalism," he said.

Bittu said the Union Government should construct a suitable memorial either in Punjab or Delhi in memory of all martyrs and provide Rs 15 lakh to each family, apart from providing one member of their family a job.
