3 held for acid attack on Gurgaon woman

The police have arrested three youths for the December 15 acid attack case here today.

The advances of one of the accused had been spurned by the victim many times leading to the attack.

The victim, a resident of Palam Vihar, had told the police that an unidentified youth had come to her house posing as a plumber and asked for an address and left. However, he returned after half an hour and threw acid on her which also fell on hands of her daughter standing next to her.

The victim was rushed to a hospital with 30 per cent burns while her daughter sustained nine per cent burns.

A special team was formed by police that nabbed Raja, Azad and Arif, who were residing in the same area.

The police said Raja had tried to coax the victim to leave her husband. When she rebuked him, he felt insulted and decided to teach her a lesson. His friend Arif then introduced him to Azad who promised carry out the attack for Rs 30,000. A sum of Rs 2000 was taken by the latter in advance.

The victim is under treatment at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and has received a compensation of Rs 50,000 from administration.

Kamlesh Panchal, chairperson of the Haryana State Commission for Women visited the city and hailed the efforts of the police and administration in the case.
