Sirsa, December 19
The first day of the religious congregation organised by radical Sikh leader Baba Baljit Singh Daduwal at Kalanwali and a parallel ‘naam charcha’ organised by Dera Sacha Sauda at nearby Lakranwali went of peacefully amid heavy security arrangements today.
Daduwal’s congregation will continue for two more days on Saturday and Sunday. The police had made elaborate arrangements to ensure that law and order was maintained, as the dera had been opposing the congregation ever since it was announced.
Sirsa SP Mitesh Jain was present in Kalanwali till both religious functions ended at around 4pm in the evening. Jain said adequate police force had been deployed to keep check on the situation.
The dera had in fact moved an application before the authorities asking them to deny permission to Daduwal. However, the authorities granted permission for the congregation and assured the dera followers that the law and order would not be allowed to go out of hand.
