Mohali, December 19

A sum of Rs 12.60 crore has been given as scholarships by the Punjab Government to pre and post-matriculation students belonging to the Scheduled Castes and Backward Castes in Mohali district.

Sharing this information, Deputy Commissioner Tejinder Pal Singh Sidhu said, “About Rs 11.78 crore has been distributed among 4,872 students of the Scheduled Castes category in the district. As many as 3,646 students studying in Classes IX and X had been given Rs 2,250 per student as assistance, taking the amount awarded to Rs 82 lakh.”

He said students of the SC category, belonging to the district, were awarded post-matric scholarships for medical, engineering, diploma, veterinary, degree and postgraduation courses. Besides, SC students of Classes IX and X were awarded scholarships under the pre-matriculation scheme.

He further said 247 beneficiaries in the district had been given assistance of over Rs 37 lakh under the shagan scheme.

DC Tejinder Pal Singh Sidhu gave an assurance that the assistance under the scheme would be made available 15 days before the wedding.
