The parents of the 17-year-old girl who was allegedly set on fire by a group of persons in her house at Prem Nagar in Dhandari on December 4 today said the police was working overtime to implicate family members in the case.

The statement came a day after the city police arrested a person from Delhi, who claimed to have met the victim while she was kidnapped (October 25 to 27). The police also involved a key witness in the case who had reportedly spoken to the girl on the phone thrice while she was in abduction.

Reiterating their demand for a CBI probe, the family said the police was trying to give a different colour to the case ever since Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said there was a different angle to the incident.

“My sister made a statement before the magistrate. All accused she had named in her statement have been arrested. Now the police have arrested a person we do not have a clue about. All this is being done to give a different colour to the incident. It appears that the police want to implicate one of us and close the case,” said victim’s brother.

The Commissioner yesterday maintained that during the course of investigation some new facts had come to light which were being investigated into by the special investigation team (SIT).

He said no one had been given a clean chit in the case so far and the matter was being investigated from all angles.

Sources said the latest accused identified as Aabid had made some startling revelations about the case.

Earlier, mother of accused Sahzad had claimed that it was a case of honour killing and the girl was set on fire by the family. She had said that her son, who was taking an examination at the time of incident, and his friends had been wrongly implicated in the case.
