Jammu, December 3

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today laughed off at the scion of the erstwhile Dogra dynasty Ajatshatru Singh for his ‘slip of tongue’.

Ajatshatru is the son of senior Congress leader Karan Singh.

At a mammoth public rally at Nagrota where National Conference provincial president for the Jammu region and party candidate from the constituency Devender Singh Rana filed his nomination papers, Omar (without naming Ajatshatru Singh) said it was clear from the leader’s words that the National Conference occupied a special place in the hearts of people.

“The leader, who parted ways with the National Conference and joined another party, is still seeking votes for us (NC). It is clear that the NC occupies a special place in the hearts of people. I will personally visit him for a thanksgiving after winning the elections,” Omar mocked at the leader.

Ajatshatru Singh, who was a minister in the Farooq Abdullah-led government from 1996 to 2002, recently joined the BJP in the presence of its national president Amit Shah in New Delhi.

He, while seeking votes for the BJP at a public rally in Nagrota on December 1, Ajatshatru had inadvertently asked the voters to press the button of “hal” (plough) and make Modi successful. Plough is the election symbol of the National Conference. This video clip has gone viral on the social media

After Ajatshatru had announced to join the BJP, Omar had described him as “dead wood” and “opportunist”.

“Never stops amazing me that opportunists like Ghulam Rasool & Ajat (Ajatshatru Singh) only find fault with NC & its leadership when their terms R (are) finishing,” Omar had written on Twitter.

He had also tweeted, “Thank goodness some of this dead wood my father had accumulated is clearing itself out. My only regret --- two wasted MLC seats for 6 years.”
