Residents of Ward Nos. 4 and 5 today demonstrated against the poor condition of roads in these wards. They threatened to boycott the coming municipal elections if the roads are not repaired immediately.

A number of men, women and children took part in the protest.

The residents said they brought the matter to the notice of officials concerned several times but to no avail. They had to pass through broken and waterlogged roads and streets.

The protesters said they had also brought the matter to the notice of the local SDM, but their demand still was pending as the then SDM has been transferred.

Today, a deputation of residents submitted a memorandum to the SDM, Khanna, for immediate repair of roads. The SDM assured to look into the matter.

The residents said they would not allow candidates of political parties to enter their wards. They would even boycott the upcoming MC elections if their demands were not accepted without any delay.

The condition of these two wards is worse as there is no sewerage in this area. Muddy water remained accumulated on the roads. People are forced to stay in unhygienic conditions.

SDM Khanna Sukhwinder Singh Gill said the residents met him today. Problems faced by the residents of these wards would be addressed soon. He would personally visit the area tomorrow to take stock of the situation.
