Mohali, December 15

Giving a final chance to the defaulters, the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) has told them to deposit their dues before December 30 or have their property rights at Purab Apartments, Sector 88, cancelled.

According to sources, there are a number of successful allottees who did not deposit their required dues after the draw of lots for GMADA’s pilot project.

“We have decided to give them one final chance to deposit their dues as per the payment schedule before December 30. After that we will start the process of cancellation of their property rights in the project,” said Navjot Kaur, additional chief administrator, GMADA. We have also issued notices in this connection, she said.

The ambitious project of GMADA had earlier lost its sheen when a large number of successful applicants opted out of the scheme and demanded refund from the authorities. High rates and five-year lock-in period were said to be the main reasons behind these applicants losing interest in the project.

Under this project, GMADA authorities have been constructing 6,300 plush flats of three types. Around 1,000-acre land of four villages, including Sohana, Lakhnaur, Baropur and Bhagomajra, was acquired by GMADA for the purpose.

The authorities claimed that the entire project will cost nearly Rs 800 crore and the construction is being carried out by a big private firm.

The deadline for completion of the first phase of the project is August 2015. In the first phase, as many as 300 single-bedroom flats, 600 two-bedroom flats and 720 three-bedroom flats will be constructed.
