The Rashtriya Rifles under the aegis of Counter Insurgency Force (Delta) conducted fruit jam-making classes for women at Bhaderwah.
During the three-week long classes, which culminated today, 20 women from socially and economically backward strata of society were trained on nuances of fruit jam making by Ved Rajan.
The classes were aimed at helping these women become financially independent and self-employed.
Second-in-Command of the unit and residents of nearby village of Bhaderwah were present at the closing ceremony.  “The Army has always been on the forefront in organising constructive activities for the locals,” said Nisha Devi, one of the participants.
She also expressed her gratitude to the Army for assisting her to pick up a new profession which would enable her to earn a livelihood and stand on her own feet.
The project will go a long way in advancement and empowerment of women of the region and would help them pursue an independent vocation and make them confident and independent individuals, a Defence spokesperson said.
