Punjab produced an impressive bowling show to bundle Maharashtra out for 210 to take the opening day honours in their Ranji Trophy match here today.

Pacer Siddarth Kaul led the fine bowling display with 3/46 as the home side folded up in 71.4 overs after being put in to bat. Harbhajan Singh, Sandeep Sharma and Maninder Singh chipped in with two wickets apiece while Yuvraj Singh got one wicket.

For Maharashtra, Rahul Tripathi top-scored with 56 off 110 deliveries, Ankit Bawne contributed 44. The duo added 86 runs for the sixth wicket to take the home side past 200-mark.

In reply, Punjab were 26 for one at the draw of stumps. Opener Jiwanjot Singh and Amitoze Singh were batting on 16 and eight, respectively.

The other Punjab opener, Uday Kaul, fell cheaply in the fifth over for just one, off the bowling of Samad Fallah.

Rasool shines for J&K

Vadodara: All-rounder Parvez Rasool struck an unbeaten half-century as Jammu and Kashmir reached 266 for six against Baroda. Put in to bat, the visitors’ top order put up a steady performance. Even though wickets fell at regular intervals, J&K weren’t in bad shape at the end of the day, thanks to Rasool’s effort. Brief scores: Jammu & Kashmir 1st Innings: 266/6 in 90 overs (Parveez Rasool 65 batting, Swapnil Singh 4/92).

Vidarbha 101/3 against Haryana on rain-hit day

Rohtak: Vidarbha reached 101/3 in 47 overs before play was called off due to bad weather in their Ranji Trophy match against Haryana here today. Faiz Fazal and Shalabh Shrivastava were batting on 42 and 10, respectively, when the play was called due to poor visibility. The visitors lost opener Sanjay Ramswamy (0) with just three runs on the board, Ganesh Satish departed for 23, and skipper Subramaniam Badrinath went for 20. Ashish Hooda picked 2/29 for Haryana.

Misal hits half-century

Porvorim: Darshan Misal scored an unbeaten half-century to help Goa reach 274 for seven against Himachal Pradesh here today. Opting to bat, Goa had a bad start with wickets falling at regular intervals. At one stage, the hosts were struggling at 96 for five. Misal, however, came to the team's rescue, scoring a brilliant unbeaten 89 off 190 balls, studded with nine boundaries and a six.
