As many as 21 more jaundice cases were detected today in different parts of Kangra town, taking the number of patients to 76, including 52 children below the age of 15 years.
Jaundice broke out in the town due to contaminated water allegedly supplied by the IPH Department, Health Department sources said today.
The Health Department has asked the IPH authorities to super chlorinate the water sources immediately before it spreads further.
Dr RK Sood, Kangra District Epidemiologist and Surveillance Officer, said today 15 patients were reported in the hospitals and six patients were detected during house-to-house search conducted by 10 teams, comprising anganwari and health workers.
He said these teams were led by Dr Vijay Kumar, Medical Officer, Tiara. The search operation in the town would be completed on December 23, he added.
Sood said the patients detected were from Old Kangra, Sohra Gaggal, Donga Bazar DAV College Hostel, Tehsil Chowk, Mainder Bazar and Dhaulatpur.
