Two killed, two injured in mishap

Two persons, including an 8-year-old child, died and two were injured in a road mishap, when a speeding bus hit their motorcycle, near Bohru village last evening.

Two persons, including an 8-year-old child, died and two were injured in a road mishap, when a speeding bus hit their motorcycle, near Bohru village last evening.

The deceased were identified as Darshan Singh and his grandson Krishdeep Singh. The injured include Darshan’s wife, Renu Rani, and their granddaughter Harpreet Kaur (11). The victims were returning to Amritsar from Jhabal while the bus was going to Jhabal from Amritsar.

Assistant sub inspector Durlabh Darshan, who is investigating the case, said as per the preliminary probe the private bus was trying to overtake a tractor when it collided head on with the motorcycle killing the riders on the spot. He said condition of Renu was stated to be serious while Harpreet Kaur escaped with minor injuries.

The driver of the bus, which belonged to a private transport company, fled from the spot leaving the bus behind. The Amritsar Rural police have registered a case under Sections 304-A, 279, 337 and 338 of the IPC against the driver. Raids were being conducted to nab the culprit, said the police.
