Four killed in car-truck collision

BATHINDA: As many as four people were killed and two others seriously injured in a collision between an Alto car and a truck on the Bathinda-Dabwali Road near Gursari village late on Friday night.

As many as four people were killed and two others seriously injured in a collision between an Alto car and a truck on the Bathinda-Dabwali Road near Gursari village late on Friday night.
The incident took place when a speeding Alto car going to Pakka Kalan from Dabwali collided head on with the truck going from Bathinda towards Dabwali. The impact of the collision was so strong that the truck carrying paddy bags overturned. The incident also caused traffic chaos.
The deceased have been identified as Gurtej Singh (30), Balwinder Singh (28), Gurpyar Singh (22) and Sadhu Ram (24), all residents of Pakka Kalan village in Bathinda district. The injured have been identified as Sikander and Virsa Singh.
Volunteers of a local NGO, Sahara Jan Sewa, immediately reached the spot and informed the Sangat police station. The NGO workers shifted the bodies to the Civil Hospital for the postmortem examination. Two persons who were seriously injured were referred to private hospital.
The police rushed to the spot and have started investigations. The truck driver fled from the spot leaving the vehicle behind. The police have impounded the vehicle.
“After receiving the information, we reached the spot immediately. A case has been registered against the truck driver. Further investigations are on,” said the investigating officer.
The prevailing foggy weather, apart from disrupting normal life, has also resulted in an increase in the number of road accidents. More than a dozen serious accidents have been reported because of the fog this season in which five people have lost their lives while more than two dozen people were reported to be injured in and around Bathinda city.
Accidents have been reported on the Goniana Road, Mansa Road, Dabwali Road, Barnala Road and near Ghorewala Chowk, Power House Chowk, GT Road and other busy intersections in the city.
A woman was killed while 12 others were injured in different road accidents in the district due to poor visibility on the first foggy morning of this winter season on December 17.
A woman was killed while seven others, including a child and three women were injured when a jeep plunged into a water distributary near Krarwala on Bathinda–Chandigarh National Highway in
the morning.
