Two youths of a family were killed in an accident on a snow-bound road in Pithoragarh town while two persons died due to severe cold in Nainital town yesterday following heavy snowfall in the Kumaon region.

Two youths of a family were killed in an accident on a snow-bound road in Pithoragarh town while two persons died due to severe cold in Nainital town yesterday following heavy snowfall in the Kumaon region.

According to the Pithoragarh police, two youths belonging to a family were killed while their three minor relatives were injured seriously when the Honda City car they were travelling in towards snow-clad Thalkedar mountains skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge around 7.30 pm yesterday.

Anshul Raj (32) and Shailash (26) died on the spot while Nishu, Priyanshu and Kartik were injured in the accident. Those killed and the injured minors belonged to the family of a local businessman. “The accident occurred at 7.30 pm yesterday. The family members, who had gone to see snow-clad mountains, met with the accident when their vehicle skidded off the road that was covered with heavy snow,” said a police spokesperson.

According to the Nainital police, a driver and a local resident died due to cold conditions last evening following snowfall. “The bodies of Prakash Panda, a local resident, and a driver from plains, who had come with tourists to Nainital, were found,” he said.
