Kapurthala, December 17

The office of the Additional Deputy Commissioner Kapurthala caught fire last night leading to partial damage of office record, furniture and old historical building in the town.

The fire was noticed at 8:30 pm last night after which the officials were sounded alert and fire tenders were called in. The officials, including Deputy Commissioner Daljit Singh Mangat rushed back to office. Since the floor, walls and ceiling have a lot of wood work, the firemen found it difficult to control the flames.

The records of development branch and the GPF got partially damaged. Fortunately, the revenue record, the room for which too falls in the same building, did not get affected. Sparks were noted intermittently and the officials remained on their toes till 2 am. A short circuit owing to old wirings is slated to be a cause for the fire.
