BJP Mahila Morcha national president Vijaya Rahatkar said today that by failing to extend support to the Muslim Triple Talaq bill in the Rajya Sabha the opposition parties displayed their insensitivity to the problems affecting women.

“The Bill came for the welfare of women but the opposition did not allow it to be passed in the Rajya Sabha. It shows they are not with the suffering women who were being issued talaq through telephone and other social media platforms,” said Vijaya while addressing a press conference today.

She also termed the Bill that was brought by the BJP before the Parliament as an achievement and it also displayed her party’s commitment to women and their issues.

On being asked why her party failed to factor in certain provisions as demanded by the opposition, Rahatkar said, “These could have been included after the passage of the Bill.”

She also said that efforts would be made to ensure 50 per cent of the party tickets are given to women candidates in the upcoming urban local bodies election in Uttarakhand.

“Our party has been in the forefront and has given maximum number of tickets to women at every level. I will press upon my party to given more tickets to women in the local urban bodies,” she said.

She also said that the party will focus on making women Self Help Groups in Uttarakhand and make contacts with aganwari workers, “This strategy helped us strengthen our booths which yielded good results in Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat,” Vijaya emphasized.
