Met predicts heavy rain in U’khand

DEHRADUN:Uttarakhand is in for another spell of rain with Met officials warning of heavy rain at isolated places in the state on July 24, 25 and 26.

Uttarakhand is in for another spell of rain with Met officials warning of heavy rain at isolated places in the state on July 24, 25 and 26. A person died in Pauri district when his house collapsed due to excessive rain.

The victim, Rahul, died when his house in Srikot village of Pauri district collapsed last night due to excessive rain in the region. Rural roads were also blocked in the Pauri district as there were landslides. 

Rivers in the state are swelling. Bhagirathi river in Uttarkashi district is at 1120.88 meters at Tiloth bridge which is around 3 meters below the danger mark. Similarly, in Haridwar, Ganga is at 292.80 meters which is around 1.20 meters below the danger mark. Pindar river in Chamoli district is flowing at 768.87 meters mark which is around 4 meters below the danger mark.

Several inter-connecting roads in the districts were blocked due to landslides, both in Garhwal and Kumaon divisions. Despite rain, a total of 230 pilgrims left Soneprayag for the Kedarnath shrine today while 93 pilgrims came back to Soneprayag. Over 1,000 pilgrims paid their obeisance at the Badrinath shrine. As many as 816 pilgrims paid obeisance at the shrines of Gangotri and Yamunotri.
