Dehradun, December 12
Environmentalist Chandi Prasad Bhatt said today that lack of political will was the reason behind neglect of environment issues. He was addressing the 2nd RS Tolia Memorial Lecture on theme ‘Mountains under Pressure, Climate, Hunger and Migration’ organised at the regional science centre of Uttarakhand Council of Science and Technology.
He said that though there were several environmental Acts, but they were not being implemented, adding that environment can be protected with a strong political will. Bhatt also gave a presentation on various river basins, flora and fauna of the Himalayan region and various other ways to protect the environment. He also talked about Dr RS Tolia and his visionary steps for protecting the Himalayas.
Dr Rajendra Dobhal, Director General, Uttarakhand Council of Science and Technology, spoke on the importance of International Mountain Day. He said that Dr Tolia started the movement and united the people of not only 12 Himalayan states but also 8 Hindukush countries.— TNS
