A 10-bedded geriatric ward has started functioning at Coronation Hospital. Five are reserved for women patients.
Dr LM Punetha, Chief Medical Superintendent, Coronation Hospital, said the ward had been constructed under the National Health Mission (NHM) and would cater to the needs of senior citizens who are 60 years and above.
“The beds and other equipment have been designed to the comfort of senior citizens,” he said.
Coronation Hospital has become the first hospital in the state with a dedicated ward for senior citizens.
Dr Punetha said similar wards would be constructed in other hospitals of the state soon.He said the hospital authorities would try to designate a physician and trained paramedical staff for the care of senior citizens.
