Dehradun, April 19

An 11-year-old boy was mauled by a leopard in the Ramangar block of Nainital district on Thursday.

The incident happened at the residence of Lal Singh, when the family was busy with a mundan ceremony. The victim, Himanshu, one of the sons of Lal Singh, was nowhere to be seen during the ceremony. The family members initially thought that Himanshu must be busy with some work, but shortly realised that he was missing.

After frantic searches, Himanshu’s half-eaten body was recovered from the nearby forest. The victim was a Class VI student at Government School. Villagers, who expressed their resentment over the incident, have sought prompt action by the forest authorities. — TNS
