Plague in Lahore.

THE daily reports of plague cases and deaths in the Lahore municipality do not indicate any upward tendency. On the contrary there is reason to believe that the disease is still endemic. One discouraging feature as we have already observed is that the disease is not confined to any particular locality or mohalla. Every day the report makes mention of cases, in new quarters where the disease had not been heard of previously during the current season. This is no doubt a disquieting feature as far as the spread of plague to non-infected quarters is concerned. But it also shows in the majority of cases that the disease has not assumed an epidemic form. This supports the view that the cases, though indigenous, are in reality the result of infection imported from elsewhere. A number of cases have also occurred in which a person coming from an infected area has himself remained immune but communicated the infection to another person who has succumbed to it.
